Six Dutchmen Net Goals in Men’s Soccer’s Victory Over Elizabethtown

ANNVILLE, Pa. ­­– The Lebanon Valley College Men's Soccer team received contributions from several players, as six members of the offense scored goals and a total of eight players tallied points in the program's dominant 6-0 win over Elizabethtown College on a rainy Wednesday, Sept. 25 at Herbert Field. 

The Dutchmen (5-4-0) generated offensive opportunities from the start, as Lucas Strange took a shot that went to the left of the net 33 seconds into the match. Strange and Aidan Negron later each took shots within a period of 58 seconds that began near the end of the sixth minute. The Blue Jays (2-4-2) registered their first shot attempt at the 8:50 mark, as the ball went to the right of the net. LVC then recorded the first shot on goal of the night, as Nathan Prex sent a ball toward the goalkeeper that was saved 12:03 into the game. 

Lebanon Valley opened the scoring 15:44 into the contest, taking a 1-0 lead over Elizabethtown. Negron got the program on the board by sending a shot into the right corner of the net, following an assist by Strange. The Flying Dutchmen found the net again at the 22:34 mark, extending their advantage to 2-0. Strange took a shot that deflected off a Blue Jays' defender, before rolling into the back of the net. 

The Dutchmen and the Blue Jays proceeded to go back and forth over the next 12:35, maintaining the score over this stretch. LVC took five total shots during this period, including attempts by Will Burton and Nolan Ross within 15 seconds during the 32nd minute. Lebanon Valley then put another tally on the scoreboard at the 35:09 mark, taking a 3-0 lead. The third goal of the afternoon was a shot by Burton that ended up in the right corner of the net, courtesy of an assist by Nolan Ross. The Flying Dutchmen took this three-goal advantage into halftime. 

Lebanon Valley continued to create scoring chances as the game went into the second half, as Aaron Weitzel sent a shot off the left post before Negron had an attempt that was saved during an 11-second stretch in the 53rd minute. Elizabethtown countered with a shot that was blocked at the 55:01 mark before the team took another shot that went above the net 55:44 into the match. LVC sent more shots toward the net as the stanza progressed, as Strange had an attempt that was saved at the 57:36 mark. 

The Dutchmen registered another point 62:20 into the contest, advancing the score to 4-0. Negron took a shot that was saved at the 62:14 mark, just before Aaron Weitzel kicked the ball into the back of the net for a goal. Lebanon Valley kept its offense rolling as the second half went on, extending its advantage to 5-0 at the 65:59 mark. Simon Grimes scored his second goal in as many games with a shot into the right side of the net, after an assist by Matthew Weinstock-Collins

LVC kept tallying shots as the match neared the end of the second half, taking seven more total attempts with four on goal over the next 19:26. The Dutchmen capped off their offensive clinic with a goal at the 86:48 mark, making it a 6-0 game on a goal by Jacob Kramer that sailed into the center of the net. Elizabethtown then took its only shot on goal of the day at the 87:26 mark, which was saved by goalkeeper Ethan Bazydola. Lebanon Valley preserved its lead through the end of play, securing the six-goal victory.

  • The Dutchmen scored a season-high six goals and had a season-high 16 points. Six different players scored goals for LVC and eight tallied points. 
  • Lebanon Valley outshot Elizabethtown 31-5 and had a 16-1 advantage in shots on goal. Both of these totals are season highs for LVC. 
  • Negron scored the first goal of the game, marking his first game-winner of the year. The graduate student also tied a game-high four total shots with a game-high three attempts on goal.
  • Strange netted his first goal of the season and dished out an assist on Negron's goal. The graduate student also matched a game-high four total shots. 
  • Weitzel scored his team-leading third goal of the fall. 
  • Burton and Kramer also registered their first goals of the season. 
  • Burton tied a game-high four total shots. 
  • Grimes netted a goal for the second straight game. 
  • Weinstock-Collins assisted the goal by Grimes. 
  • Ross was credited with an assist on Burton's goal. 
  • The Flying Dutchmen controlled the possession in 59 percent of the contest. 
  • LVC tallied six corner kicks while Elizabethtown had three. 
  • Bazydola made a save.

The Dutchmen will return to the pitch at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, as the team will host Alvernia University at Herbert Field.
