CAMDEN, N.J. – Simon Grimes scored his first career goal for the Lebanon Valley College Men's Soccer team, as the program dropped a 4-1 contest to Rutgers University-Camden on Saturday, Sept. 21 at the Camden Athletic Complex.
The Dutchmen and the Scarlet Raptors went back and forth defensively early in the game, keeping each other off the scoreboard for nearly 36 minutes at the start. Lebanon Valley created an offensive opportunity 5:22 into the first half, as
Ben Kolarek took a shot that hit off the crossbar. Rutgers-Camden countered with a shot at the 7:56 mark, but goalkeeper
Dalton Fitterling was there to make the save for LVC. The goalie made another important stop 10:47 into the first, keeping things scoreless.
The programs proceeded to battle over the next 18:20, as neither team took a shot over this stretch. Fitterling then posted his third save of the day for Lebanon Valley at the 29:07 mark. The Dutchmen opened the scoring 35:51 into the contest, taking a 1-0 lead over the Scarlet Raptors. Grimes put the program ahead with his big goal, courtesy of an assist by
Aaron Weitzel. The Flying Dutchmen took this one-goal advantage into halftime.
LVC generated some scoring chances early in the second half, as
Lucas Strange took a header shot that went to the right of the net at the 48:17 mark before
Nathan Prex's shot that was saved at the 51:02 mark. Rutgers-Newark got on the board 52:28 into the game with a goal by Ethan Steinbiss, tying the match at 1-1. The Scarlet Raptors registered another shot on goal at the 56:17 mark, which resulted in Fitterling's fourth save of the afternoon. Lebanon Valley continued to send shots toward the net as half two progressed, as
Ethan Groff had an attempt that was saved 60:06 into the game.
Rutgers-Newark then went ahead 3-1 nearly 74 minutes into the contest, as Brandon Valeri recorded a goal at the 71:08 mark before Isaiah Hamilton scored at the 73:57 mark. The team took another shot on goal that was saved by Fitterling 81:04 into the match. The Scarlet Raptors scored again at the 83:28 mark, making it a 4-1 game on a goal by Pedro Jovel-Castro. Ultimately, this would stand as the final score.
