ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College Women's Soccer team picked up its second straight victory, as a goal by
Darrian Berkheimer propelled the squad to a 1-0 victory over Eastern University on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at Olson Field. Goalkeeper
Camryn Porter also played an important part in the win, recording her first career shutout.
The Dutchmen (2-3-0) generated an offensive opportunity early with the game's first shot on goal, as
Sophia Floyd registered an attempt that was saved 1:53 into the match. The Eagles (4-1-2) countered with a shot that went off the crossbar at the 4:44 mark, prompting the contest to remain scoreless. The programs proceeded to battle defensively, as neither side took a shot until Eastern recorded an attempt that went wide-left of the net 15:23 into the stanza.
Lebanon Valley continued to send the ball toward the net as the first frame progressed, as the squad registered four shots within a period of 2:28 that began in the 20
th minute.
Abrielle Miller had one of these attempts and later tallied a shot on goal for LVC, which was saved at the 37:29 mark. The Dutchmen then opened the scoring with 5:05 remaining in the opening half, taking a 1-0 lead over Eastern. Berkheimer got the program on the board by sending a goal into the lower-right corner of the net, following an assist by Miller. LVC took this one-point advantage into halftime.
Lebanon Valley kept creating offensive chances when the second half got underway, as
Mikayla Mitchell took a shot 2:12 into the stanza that was saved near the lower-center portion of the net. The Eagles responded with a shot 1:47 later, but Porter was there to make the save for the Flying Dutchmen. Porter registered another stop at the 54:25 mark, preserving LVC's lead. Berkheimer then generated an opportunity for Lebanon Valley 64:04 into the contest, taking a shot that hit off the crossbar.
The teams continued to go back and forth as the match rolled on, as each squad kept sending the ball toward the net. Eastern took a shot that was saved by Porter at the lower-center portion of the net 74:45 into the game. Lebanon Valley's offense responded with a shot by Miller that was saved 30 seconds later. On the defensive end, Porter registered two more clutch saves at 83:19 and 88:01 marks to keep the Dutchmen ahead. Lebanon Valley went on to preserve its 1-0 lead through the remainder of the contest, providing the team with back-to-back wins.
