Prex Records Three Points in Dutchmen Men’s Soccer’s Win Over Cairn

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Nathan Prex helped lead the No. 18 Lebanon Valley College Men's Soccer team by tallying three points, as the program defeated Cairn University 3-1 on Saturday, Sept. 14 at Herbert Field.

The Dutchmen (4-2-0) didn't waste any time getting on the scoreboard, taking an early 1-0 lead over the Highlanders (2-2-1) 4:28 into the match. Prex opened the scoring by sending a shot past the diving attempt of the goalkeeper and into the right corner of the net, courtesy of an assist by Nolan Ross. Cairn countered with a shot attempt 53 seconds later, but goalkeeper Dalton Fitterling was there to make the save. Lebanon Valley found the net again 15:21 into the game, extending its advantage to 2-0. Charlie McCormick put the program up by two with a goal on a penalty kick shot that ended up in the lower-right corner of the net.

Defensively, Fitterling continued to produce for LVC by registering a pair of saves within a period of 58 seconds that began in the 22nd minute. The Flying Dutchmen then kept the opposition from taking a shot until the 33:08 mark, when the goalkeeper posted his fourth save of the afternoon before tallying his fifth 40:49 into the half. Lebanon Valley also kept sending shots toward the net as the opening stanza progressed, as Simon Grimes had an attempt that was saved with just 28 seconds remaining in the first. LVC took this two-goal lead into halftime.

The Dutchmen then resumed the scoring 8:55 into the second half, going ahead 3-0. Ben Ammon kicked the ball past the diving try of the goalie and into the lower-left corner of the net, following an assist by Prex. The programs proceeded to battle defensively for nearly the next 20 minutes. During this scoreless stretch, Fitterling made his seventh save of the day at the 68:03 mark.

The Highlanders then got on the board 72:44 into the contest, narrowing the score to 3-1 on a goal by Jack Fiacco. Lebanon Valley responded with stellar defense during the remainder of the game. Cairn registered another shot on goal attempt 3:42 later, but Fitterling delivered another important stop. Fitterling also continued to make key saves as the match neared its conclusion, stopping shots by the Highlanders at the 86:44 and 89:03 marks. The Dutchmen would go on to preserve their two-goal lead advantage and secure the victory.
