Berkheimer Nets Two Goals in Women's Soccer's Victory Over Wilkes

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Darrian Berkheimer netted two goals for the Lebanon Valley College Women's Soccer team, playing a pivotal role in the program's big 2-1 victory over Wilkes University on Saturday, Sept. 14 at Herbert Field.

The Colonels opened the scoring 5:43 into the match, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Madison Straub, immediately following a free kick. The Dutchmen also generated offensive opportunities early in the first half, as Abrielle Miller took two shots for the squad within a period of 29 seconds that began near the end of the seventh minute. Wilkes sent the ball toward the net again at the 9:03 mark, but goalkeeper Camryn Porter was there to make the save for LVC.

Lebanon Valley then got on the scoreboard 10:17 into the game, tying things up at 1-1. The program evened the score on a penalty kick goal by Berkheimer that went past the diving attempt of the goalie and sailed into the upper-left corner of the net. The Flying Dutchmen continued to send shots toward the goalkeeper as the opening half progressed, including an attempt by Berkheimer that was saved 26:28 into the frame and a try by Miller that was saved at the 28:27 mark. The teams proceeded to go back and forth defensively through the remainder of the first, sending the contest into halftime in a 1-1 tie.

Both programs delivered strong defensive efforts early in half two, maintaining the score for nearly 25 minutes at the start. The Colonels took a shot on goal 1:10 into the stanza, but this attempt was stopped with Porter's third save of the afternoon. The Dutchmen also sent more shots toward the net as the half went on, as Mikayla Mitchell had an attempt that was saved at the 55:36 mark.

Lebanon Valley resumed the scoring 69:42 into the match, taking a 2-1 advantage over Wilkes. Berkheimer took the ball from near midfield toward the net, where she attempted a shot that was saved before netting a clutch goal to put LVC ahead. The teams then kept battling defensively as the second half progressed, as both sides limited offensive chances.
