BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Goalkeeper
Camryn Porter made five saves for the Lebanon Valley College Women's Soccer team in its first matchup of the 2024 season, as the program dropped a close 1-0 contest to Moravian University on Friday, Aug. 30 at John Makuvek Field.
The Dutchmen and the Greyhounds competed defensively throughout the first half, limiting offensive opportunities early in the game. Lebanon Valley's defense held Moravian to just two shots during the opening 13 minutes, while
Sophia Floyd tallied a shot on goal for the squad 13:13 into the first. LVC's defense continued to make an impact as the half progressed, blocking two shots within 33 seconds in the 16
th minute.
Darrian Berkheimer contributed to the program's offensive efforts, taking a shot during the 25
th minute before tallying another attempt in the 27
th. The Greyhounds took their first shot on goal 35:14 into the match, but Porter made a save to maintain the scoreless tie.
Chloe Moser later sent a shot toward the net for Lebanon Valley with 2:11 remaining in the first, as the squad continued to battle. The game remained even at 0-0 through the first 45 minutes, as the teams went into halftime in a scoreless tie.
LVC and Moravian kept going back and forth on the defensive end during the start of half two. Porter registered her second save of the contest 6:08 into the frame, making the stop during a stretch where the Greyhounds took three total shots within 32 seconds. The Dutchmen countered with an attempt of their own 53:55 into the match, as
Olivia Baldwin took a shot on goal.
Porter's next two saves came 70:33 and 73:21 into the game, as the first-year goalkeeper continued her strong debut. Moravian opened the scoring 73:27 into the match, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Carly Pyatt. Lebanon Valley battled during the remainder of play, as
Megan Ressler and Baldwin both tallied shots within three seconds in the 87
th minute. Moravian proceeded to maintain its one-point advantage through the end of the contest.
