Tarnoci Hits First Homer in Baseball’s Series Opener Against Arcadia

ANNVILLE, Pa. ­­– Parker Tarnoci hit his first career home run for the Lebanon Valley College baseball team, as the club dropped a 23-6 contest to Arcadia University on Friday, April 26 at McGill Field. 

The Dutchmen and Knights traded zeros in the first inning, keeping the game scoreless through the opening frame. Andrew Spaan started on the mound for LVC and retired the side in order in the top of the first, registering a flyout down the left-field line, a lineout to shortstop, and a strikeout looking. In the bottom of the first inning, Logan Brewer picked up Lebanon Valley's first hit by lining a single to center field. Arcadia then scored nine runs in the top of the second, taking a 9-0 lead during a frame that included a pair of two-run singles, a three-run home run to left field, and a solo home run to left. 

The Knights added three more runs in the top of the third inning, making it a 12-0 game after the last run of the frame scored a double play. Arcadia then hit a solo homer to right field in the top of the fourth and plated two in the fifth with an RBI double down the left-field line and a sacrifice fly to center, going ahead 15-0. 

The Dutchmen continued to battle at the plate as the contest progressed, as Lincoln Hower and Kenny Palmieri hit back-to-back pinch-hit singles in the bottom of the fifth. The Knights followed this with an RBI double to right-center in the top of the sixth, going up 16-0. Arcadia then scored four in the seventh, after an inning that included an RBI single to second base and an RBI single up the middle, making it a 20-0 game. 

Lebanon Valley got on the board in the bottom of the seventh inning, advancing the score to 20-1. The club generated some traffic on the basepaths, as Adam Jirik drew a walk and Hower reached base on a hit by pitch before Jirik moved up to third on a flyout to center. This put runners on the corners with one out, prompting Hower to steal second base while Jirik hustled home on Arcadia's throw down to second.

The Knights tacked on three runs in the top of the eighth before the Dutchmen answered back with five in the bottom of the eighth, making it a 23-6 contest. Jirik started a two-out rally with a single up the middle before Logan Fuga hit a grounder to shortstop and reached on a fielding error, putting runners on first and third base. Palmieri followed this by driving a two-run double into left-center field, plating Jirik and Fuga. Duncan Weir then hit a single to third base to put runners on the corners once again. Tarnoci capped off the scoring by crushing a three-run blast over the left-field wall, driving in Palmieri and Weir. 

Dallas Alexander entered the game to pitch for LVC in the top of the ninth and posted a zero, after a lineout to second base, a lineout to center field, and a force out at second on a fielder's choice. Ultimately, the score was maintained through the end of the game. 

Inside the Box Score
  • Tarnoci left the yard for the first time in his career while also recording the first three RBIs of his career. The first-year led LVC in RBIs during the game. 
  • Palmieri had two base hits, including a two-run double in the bottom of the eighth. The sophomore also scored a run. 
  • Jirik logged a base hit, a walk, and a season-high two runs scored. The second baseman also had a season-high four putouts. 
  • Weir picked up a hit and scored a run. 
  • Fuga crossed the plate once. 
  • Hower registered a hit and stole a base. 
  • Brewer, Christian Vanelli, Kameron Wetzel, and Pete Botbyl each had a hit as well. 
  • Jace Fetterman drew a walk. 
  • Spaan struck out three batters.
  • Chris Langsdorf tallied two strikeouts in a relief appearance. The sophomore also had an assist in the field. 
  • Parker Raham registered his first career strikeout. 
  • Alexander tossed a scoreless ninth inning. 
Up Next
The Dutchmen will return to action at noon on Saturday, April 27, as the club will close out the regular season with a doubleheader against the Knights at Skip Wilson Field in Ambler, Pennsylvania.
