O’Loughlin and Brewer Record RBIs for Dutchmen Baseball at Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE, Md. – Ethan O'Loughlin and Logan Brewer each drove in a run for the Lebanon Valley College baseball team, as the club dropped a 12-2 contest to No. 8/11 Johns Hopkins University on Monday, April 22 at Babb Field at Stromberg Stadium.

The Dutchmen generated some traffic on the basepaths in the top of the first inning, as Ethan O'Loughlin singled up the middle and Brewer drew a walk. Trey Dianna was Lebanon Valley's starting pitcher and began the afternoon with a scoreless bottom of the first inning, after a pair of flyouts and a groundout to shortstop. The right-hander followed this by retiring the side in order in the top of the bottom of the second inning, striking out the first two hitters before getting an unassisted groundout to Brewer at first base.

Dianna posted two more zeros in the bottom of the third and fourth innings, keeping the contest scoreless. The Dutchmen got on the board in the top of the fifth inning, taking a 2-0 lead over the Blue Jays. Justin Ranker and Nico Santoro began the frame with back-to-back singles up the middle, putting runners on first and second base with no outs. O'Loughlin then lined an RBI double down the left-field line, plating Ranker. Brewer followed this with an RBI groundout to first base, bringing home Santoro.

Dianna proceeded to toss a 1-2-3 frame in the bottom of the fifth, maintaining LVC's 2-0 advantage with a groundout to shortstop, a groundout to third, and a flyout to center field. Johns Hopkins then scored eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, taking an 8-2 lead after a frame that included an RBI single up the middle and a grand slam to left field. The Flying Dutchmen continued to battle at the plate as the game progressed, as Jace Fetterman sent a two-out single into right field in the top of the seventh.

The Blue Jays added four runs in the bottom of the seventh, making it a 12-2 contest after an RBI double down the left-field line, a sacrifice fly to center, an RBI groundout to first base, and an RBI single to right field. Hunter Williams then pitched a shutout bottom of the eighth inning for the Lebanon Valley, striking out two batters in the process. The Dutchmen kept competing in the batter's box until the final out, as Devin Kreger registered a pinch-hit single to left-center field in the top of the ninth. Ultimately, this would stand as the final score.
