ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley men's lacrosse team outscored visiting Delaware Valley University 9-0 in the second quarter to break open the game for a 21-6 win over the Aggies on Sunday in the annual Crosse Out Cancer game on Arnold Field.
The Dutchmen (6-7, 2-1 MAC Freedom) got on the board first as
Colin Hughes beat a defender and sent a shot into the back of the net nearly two minutes into the game. Delaware Valley (4-9, 0-3 MAC Freedom) responded with a pair of goals 30 seconds apart to take a 2-1 lead. LVC tied the game up as
Jake Bollinger scored his first goal of the game with 8:33 left in the quarter. The teams battled up and down the field with neither team able to score over the next six minutes before the Aggies retook the lead on an unassisted goal with just over a minute left. The Dutchmen responded with another goal by Hughes off an assist from Bollinger with 11 seconds remaining to make it a 3-3 game after the first quarter.
LVC opened the second quarter strong as
John Lux scored 44 seconds into the period. A little over 30 seconds later,
Ethan Keenan gave the Dutchmen a two-goal lead off an assist by Bollinger. Lux added another unassisted goal to make it 6-3 before Bollinger and Hughes scored back-to-back goals in a span of 14 seconds.
Alex Kiviniemi found Bollinger over the middle for a man-up goal with 9:36 on the clock before Bollinger dished out an assist to Hughes to make it 8-3. The strong play continued as
Liam Hogan found
Trey Ralston open for a goal a little over midway through the period and then Kiviniemi found the back of the net to give LVC a 10-3 advantage with a little under six minutes to play. The final two goals of the half came in the last two minutes as Kiviniemi found Lux for his third goal of the game out of a timeout and then Ralston assisted on a Kiviniemi goal less than 20 seconds later.
Hayden Carling began the second half with a goal to give LVC a 10-goal advantage a little over a minute in off a pass from Kiviniemi. The Aggies stooped the scoring streak three minutes later with their first goal of the half. The Dutchmen countered with a goal a minute later by Lux on an assist by Carling and then
Rowan Myers made it 15-4 with an unassisted goal with 9:29 on the clock. Kiviniemi made it a 12-goal lead with a man-up goal 20 seconds into the extra-man opportunity off an assist from Lux. Ralston then ended the scoring in the period as Carling found him open over the middle with a little over two minutes to play.
The Dutchmen began the fourth quarter with a man-advantage due to a late penalty by the Aggies in the third. LVC took advantage of the situation and Bollinger scored another man-up goal off an assist from Kiviniemi 45 seconds into the quarter.
Ryan Hendrixson scored his first goal of the game with 9:30 on the clock off a nice pass from
Trevor Moore. The Aggies cut into the lead with a goal 40 seconds later. Hendrixson then assisted on a goal by
Sean Poole to make it 20-5 with 5:28 left. DVU scored their final goal of the game 28 seconds later before Poole rounded out the scoring in the final minute with a man-up goal off another assist by Hendrixson.
Inside the Box
- The 21 goals are a season-high for the Dutchmen and the most in a game since ending last spring with a 20-10 victory over Albright.
- Lux scored a season-high four goals for his second hat trick of the year and added an assist. The graduate student led the Dutchmen with 10 shots putting five on goal.
- Kiviniemi had seven points on three goals and four assists. He also picked up two ground balls and caused a turnover.
- Bollinger recorded his fourth hat trick in the last five games with three goals and three assists for six points. The senior had two man-up goals and put five of his eight shots on goal.
- Hughes was the fourth Dutchmen with a hat trick scoring three goals on five shots. The junior picked up three ground balls and caused a turnover.
- Ralston recorded three points on two goals and an assist while Carling and Hendrixson had a goal and two assists each.
- Poole recorded his first career multi-goal game with two goals on three shots.
- Sheadan Makosy led the defense with three caused turnovers and five ground balls.
- Easley Pierson added four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
- The Dutchmen had a 60-23 shot advantage and 38-24 advantage on ground balls. LVC was 17-19 on clear attempts.

The Dutchmen will be on the road on Wednesday evening for a big MAC Freedom contest at Misericordia University. The opening faceoff is schedule for 7 p.m. at Mangelsdorf Field against the Cougars.
