Six Dutchmen Net Goals for Men’s Lacrosse at Misericordia

DALLAS, Pa. ­­– John Lux was one of six players to score a goal for the Lebanon Valley College men's lacrosse team, finding the net twice as the program dropped a hard-fought 13-9 contest to Misericordia University on Wednesday, April 17 at Mangelsdorf Field. 

The Cougars attempted their first shot 1:32 into the matchup, but goalkeeper Kellen Markley came through with an early save for the Dutchmen. Misericordia opened the scoring with a goal 2:54 into the first quarter, taking a 1-0 lead. The Cougars found the net again with 10:14 remaining in the frame, going ahead 2-0. Lebanon Valley also worked to generate offensive opportunities throughout the first, sending 12 shots toward the net in the first 15 minutes. Lux and Jake Bollinger each took a shot within 30 seconds in a stretch that began with a little over nine minutes to go.

The Flying Dutchmen got on the board with 3:37 left in the opening quarter, narrowing the score to 2-1. The squad got its offense rolling with a goal by Colin Hughes, courtesy of an assist by Jake Bollinger. Misericordia responded with a goal 10 seconds later, taking a 3-1 advantage. Lebanon Valley answered right back with 2:32 to play, trimming its deficit to 3-2 after a goal by Rowan Myers. Hughes was credited with the assist on LVC's second goal of the night.

The programs proceeded to battle defensively through the end of the first and early in the second quarter. The Cougars attempted a shot 43 seconds into frame two, but Markley made an important save. Lebanon Valley then resumed the scoring with 9:47 remaining in the second, tying the game at 3-3. Lux evened the score by sending a shot into the net, following an assist by Dylan Rinyack. The Dutchmen went ahead just 42 seconds later, claiming a 4-3 lead on an unassisted goal by Bollinger. 

LVC put another point on the board with 5:29 left in the second quarter, making it a 5-3 game. The team took a two-point advantage on a goal by Rinyak, after an assist by Trey Ralston. Misericordia closed out the first half with two goals in the final 2:16, prompting the contest to enter halftime in a 5-5 tie.

The Cougars scored first in the second half, finding the net with 12:26 remaining in the third quarter to go up 6-5. This was followed by Markley saving all three shots he faced over the next 3:30, maintaining the score. The goalkeeper's last save in this stretch was followed by a successful clear attempt, leading to Lux taking a shot that ended up in the back of the net to tie the game at 6-6 with 8:08 left. This clutch goal was assisted by Bollinger, marking his second of the evening. 

Misericordia countered with a goal when there was 4:44 to play in the third quarter, taking a 7-6 lead. Lebanon Valley kept creating scoring chances as the frame went on, as Alex Kiviniemi, Lux, and Myers each took a shot over the next 3:13. LVC then tied up the game at 7-7 with 51 seconds to play in the third, as Bollinger scored a man-up goal after Ralston dished out an assist. 

The Dutchmen didn't waste any time getting on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter, claiming an 8-7 advantage just nine seconds into the frame. LVC won the opening faceoff and Kiviniemi picked up the groundball. The graduate student then took the ball straight to the net and sent a shot past the goalkeeper to put the program back in front. The Cougars responded with 12:53 left in the third, recording a goal to even the contest at 8-8. 

Lebanon Valley had an answer once again, as the squad went ahead 9-8 just 59 seconds later on an unassisted goal by Bollinger. Misericordia then countered with five consecutive goals during a stretch of 3:14, taking a 13-9 lead with 5:54 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Flying Dutchmen kept battling until the clock expired, sending four shots toward the net during the remaining minutes. Ultimately, this would stand as the final score. 

Inside the Box Score
  • Bollinger tied a game-high five points while leading the Dutchmen with three goals and tying for a team-leading two assists. The senior also led LVC with six shots on goal and a season-high 13 shots, tying for the most by a member of the team this year. Bollinger had a ground ball as well. 
  • Lux netted a pair of goals, picked up a ground ball, and caused a turnover. 
  • Hughes had two points with a goal and an assist. The junior also picked up two ground balls. 
  • Rinyak also tallied a goal and an assist. The sophomore picked up a ground ball as well. 
  • Ralston dished out two assists, tying for the team lead. 
  • Kiviniemi netted his 28th goal of the year. 
  • Myers scored his ninth goal of the spring and tallied a ground ball. 
  • Sheadan Makosy tied for a game-high four ground balls while causing a turnover.
  • Branden Manderbach also tied the game-high with four ground balls, matching his season-most in the process. The sophomore also caused a turnover. 
  • Lebanon Valley outshout Misericordia 42-39.
  • The Flying Dutchmen went 23-for-25 on clears. 
  • LVC recorded 20 ground balls.
  • The Dutchmen had an 18-9 advantage on faceoff victories. Miles Snyder was credited with winning each of these faceoffs, marking his season high. 
  • Markley made 13 saves. 
  • Easley Pierson and Owen Cummins each caused a turnover.

The Dutchmen will return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, as the program will travel to take on DeSales University in Center Valley, Pennsylvania.
