NEWTOWN, Pa. – First-year goalkeeper Jamie Handwerger received recognition for her efforts in the Lebanon Valley College women's lacrosse team's victory over Albright College last week, as the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) office announced in a release on Monday, that she was chosen as the MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week.
Handwerger made 12 saves in goal as LVC earned a 20-6 road victory at Albright in the team's only game of the week. Handwerger made six saves in each half and held the Lions to just two second-half goals after LVC led 7-4 at the break. The goalkeeper stopped Albright's only free-position shot of the game and had one ground ball.
This marks Handwerger's first career MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week award. The Flying Dutchmen have earned five weekly conference honors this season, including Emily Beard being named MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week last Monday. It is the team's third Defensive Player of the Week award of the year.
Handwerger and Lebanon Valley will return to action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, as the team will host Messiah University at Arnold Field for the final non-conference game of the season.
