Bagapuro, Morgan, and Whisler Power Dutchmen to Dominant Win at FDU-Florham

MADISON, N.J. – Kamille Bagapuro, Elizabeth Morgan, and Molly Whisler each had at least five points as the Lebanon Valley women's lacrosse team posted a dominant 21-2 victory at FDU-Florham on Wednesday evening on Robert T. Shields Field in Madison, New Jersey.
 
The Dutchmen (8-6, 2-2 MAC Freedom) dominated from start to finish against the Devils (5-6, 1-3 MAC Freedom) as they held the hosts to just eight total shots in the game. LVC held a huge 44-8 shot advantage with the Devils taking just two shots in each quarter. The Dutchmen jumped right on top with eight first-quarter goals. Chloe Moser won the opening draw control and the first six draw controls of the game. Less than 45 seconds into the start, Katie DeWitt found Whisler for the senior's first goal of the game. Morgan then connected with Annelise Shack to put the squad up 2-0 with 11:56 on the clock.
 
The scoring continued as Kyla Hebert found the back of the net off a pass from Bethany Cohee. Bagapuro scored her first of five goals with 6:42 left in the quarter to force the Devils to take their first timeout with the score 4-0. The Dutchmen added four goals over the next three minutes starting with Shack's second goal of the game. Morgan then fed Cohee to make it 6-0.  Whisler added her second goal off another pass by DeWitt, and then Morgan fired a shot into the back of the cage to make it 8-0.
 
FDU-Florham held the Dutchmen scoreless for the final three minutes of the first quarter and the first three minutes of the second quarter before Hebert connected with DeWitt to push the advantage to nine. Morgan got the advantage to 10 and a running clock with 10:40 remaining in the half as DeWitt dished out her third assist of the game. Hannah Schneider scored a free-position goal before Bagapuro added a goal. Whisler completed her hat trick off an assist from Morgan to give the Dutchmen a 13-0 halftime lead.
 
LVC kept the pressure going in the second half, hitting the post twice before Hebert scored to make it 14-0 with 11:30 on the clock. Cohee scored her second goal off an assist by Schneider, and then Maddie Puleo scored off a pass from Whisler to push the advantage to 16. The Devils were able to get on the board on a goal with two minutes remaining in the quarter.
 
The Dutchmen responded with a Bagapuro goal 24 seconds into the fourth quarter. LVC kept firing shots at the net, and Bagapuro added a woman-down goal on a free position shot with a little over 10 minutes to play that made the score 18-1. The first-year scored again three minutes later, forcing FDU-Florham to call a timeout. The Devils scored with 5:45 left to cut the deficit to 19-2. LVC answered with a pair of goals by Whisler in the final two minutes, with Morgan recording an assist on the first goal.
 
Inside the Box
  • LVC held a dominant 44-8 shot advantage, including 28-6 in shots on goal. The Dutchmen won 16 of the 24 draws and were a perfect 10-for-10 on clear attempts.
  • Whisler had six points on five goals and one assist with three ground balls. The senior posted her second five-goal game of the year and eighth hat trick.
  • Morgan also had six points on two goals and four assists. The junior has scored two goals in each of the past three games and went over the 150-point mark in her career.
  • Bagapuro scored a season-high five goals on eight shots. She recorded the second hat trick of the year.
  • DeWitt had four points on one goal and three assists. Cohee and Hebert added three points on two goals and one assist apiece.
  • Shack scored two goals on two shots while Schneider recorded two points on one goal and one assist. Puleo scored her fifth goal of the year.
  • Moser won nine draw controls and caused two turnovers. She won the 200th draw control of her career in the game. The sophomore also picked up two ground balls. Nina Humpf won three draw controls and picked up two ground balls. Annelise Vetter caused two turnovers and had two ground balls.
Up Next
The Dutchmen will just have one day off before returning to action on Friday evening with a trip up I-81 to face King's College. The opening draw is scheduled for 6 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium against the Monarchs.
