WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's lacrosse team put together another dominant performance on the road as the Dutchmen defeated King's 20-1 on Friday evening at McCarthy Stadium in Wilkes-Barre. LVC outshot the Monarchs 43-3 while controlling possession for most of the game.
The Dutchmen (9-6, 3-2 MAC Freedom) earned their fourth consecutive dominant road win and will finish the regular season 6-1 away from Annville, as the final two games are home games next week. LVC dominated the Monarchs from start to finish as
Chloe Moser won the opening draw, and 40 seconds later,
Elizabeth Morgan hit
Nina Humpf over the middle for the first goal of the game. Humpf then won the following draw control, and
Bethany Cohee had a shot saved. LVC forced a failed clear attempt, and
Molly Whisler had a shot saved.
Katie DeWitt picked up a ground ball on another failed clear. Whisler then found
Annelise Shack for her ninth goal of the year to make it 2-0.
Kamille Bagapuro made it 3-0 with 10:26 on the clock as she scored a free-position goal.
Kyla Hebert pushed the lead to 4-0 with 8:35 on the clock with her 33rd goal of the year off a pass from Cohee. The Dutchmen kept attacking the crease as DeWitt and
Hannah Schneider had shots saved. The teams traded turnovers before Schneider worked her way open for her 13th goal of the season with 2:14 remaining in the quarter. The junior added another goal about a minute later as DeWitt recorded an assist to push the advantage to 6-0. LVC would add another goal before the period ended as Morgan found Cohee open for her eighth goal of the season with seven seconds left.
The Dutchmen began the second quarter with the ball as Moser won another draw control at the end of the first. The Monarchs had two cards in the first minute. LVC capitalized as Whisler scored her 40th goal of the season off a pass from Cohee. The Dutchmen were still a woman up and 24 seconds later, Morgan assisted Bagapuro for a goal to make it 9-0. The Dutchmen got to a running clock with 11:09 left in the half as Hebert scored off a pass by Schneider to give the Dutchmen a 10-goal advantage.
Morgan added another assist a couple of minutes later as Whisler scored her second goal of the game. The Dutchmen were shown a pair of cards over the next few minutes, but that didn't stop them from scoring as Whisler completed her hat trick with a woman-down goal off a pass from Humpf. The lead expanded to 13-0 with a little over three minutes to play in the half as Morgan scored off an assist by DeWitt. DeWitt gave LVC a 14-goal halftime lead with her 12th goal of the year with a minute on the clock. Morgan provided the assist on the score.
LVC came out of the break and continued to dominate the Monarchs. The Dutchmen scored a pair of free-position goals to begin the half as
Megan Williver tallied her fifth goal of the year before Schneider fired her second goal of the game into the back of the net. The lead grew to 17-0 with a little under seven minutes to play in the quarter as Morgan assisted Hebert on a woman-up goal. King's got on the scoreboard with 2:31 on the clock with a woman-up free position goal. The score remained 17-1 after three quarters of play as Cohee had a shot saved in the final minute.
The Dutchmen came out firing to begin the fourth quarter as Morgan had a shot blocked and Cohee had a shot saved. Morgan scored a free-position goal to push the lead to 18-1.
Emily Menet hit the post on a free position, and DeWitt had a shot blocked as the Dutchmen continued to fire away at the goal. Schneider, Humpf, and Cohee had shots saved before Schneider was able to score her fourth goal of the game off a feed from Whisler. The junior then scored in the final minute with the Dutchmen playing a woman down off a pass by Morgan to set the final score.
Inside the Box
- Morgan had a season-high nine points on two goals and a season-high seven assists. The junior surpassed her point total from last year with 29 goals and 35 assists for 64 points.
- Schneider scored a career-high five goals and added an assist for six points. She recorded the first hat trick of her career.
- Whisler had five points on three goals and two assists. The senior recorded her ninth hat trick of the season.
- Hebert recorded a hat trick with three goals on four shots. The senior recorded her fourth hat trick of the year.
- Cohee and DeWitt had three points on one goal and two assists each.
- Bagapuro scored two goals, picked up five ground balls, and won four draw controls.
- Humpf had two points on one goal and one assist with two draw controls.
- Moser won three draws and picked up five ground balls. She also caused two turnovers. Grace Marchese also won three draw controls.
- The Dutchmen had a commanding 43-3 shot advantage and were a perfect 10-for-10 on clear attempts. They held Kings to just 4-for-19 on clears. LVC won 14 of the 21 draws and picked up 23 ground balls.
- LVC improved to 9-0 all-time against the Monarchs, scoring at least 20 goals in the past three conference meetings.
