ANNVILLE, Pa. – Shane Stossel's grand slam in the bottom of the third inning tied the Lebanon Valley College baseball team's career home runs record, hitting his 23
rd long ball as the club dropped a 19-5 game to York College of Pennsylvania on Tuesday, March 26 at McGill Field.
The Spartans began the scoring in the top of the first inning, taking a 3-0 lead on an RBI single and a two-run single. York followed this by scoring two runs in both the second and third frames, making it a 7-0 contest.
The Dutchmen got on the board in the bottom of the third inning, narrowing the score to 7-5 with a big five-run frame.
Lincoln Hower led off the inning with a double into the right-center field gap before
John Adams drew a walk.
Duncan Weir then lined a one-out RBI single down the right field line, plating Hower. Later in the third, Stossel came up to the plate with the bases loaded and crushed a two-out grand slam over the left-center field wall. The blast tied the senior for first on the program's all-time homers list, driving in
Luke Pollock, Weir, and Adams in the process.
York responded in the top of the fourth inning, taking an 8-5 lead on an RBI single up the middle.
Hayden Fravel came out of the bullpen for Lebanon Valley at the start of the top of the fifth and later faced runners on second and third base with nobody out. The southpaw proceeded to get out of the frame with three consecutive strikeouts, delivering a scoreless inning. The Spartans tacked on a run in the top of the sixth on an RBI single and added another in the seventh on an RBI fielder's choice, making it a 10-5 game.
The Flying Dutchmen registered a shutout top of the eighth, as
Ryan Pickle began the frame with two quick outs on a swinging strikeout and a foul out down the right field line.
Jacob Detwiler then entered the game to pitch for LVC and got the final out of the inning, as second baseman
Kenny Palmieri hustled to make an impressive catch on a pop-up to shallow right field. York then scored nine runs in the top of the ninth inning, prompting 19-5 to be the final score.

- Stossel's grand slam marked his 23rd career homer, tying Kevin Wagner on the program's all-time home runs list. The home run also extended the senior's hitting streak to eight games and provided him with 21 RBIs this year.
