Ralston Leads Dutchmen to Win at Moravian with Six Points

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Trey Ralston had three goals and three assists to lead the Lebanon Valley men's lacrosse team to a 13-6 victory over host Moravian University on Wednesday afternoon at John Makuvek Field in Bethlehem.
 
The Dutchmen won their first game of the year while improving to 4-0 all-time against the Greyhounds. Jake Bollinger gave the Dutchmen the lead with his fourth goal of the season a little over four minutes into the game. The captain made it 2-0 with his second goal of the game off an assist by Ralston with just a little under six minute to play. Moravian got on the board with their first goal of the game with three minutes on the clock. LVC responded right back as Alex Kiviniemi scored 50 seconds later. The Dutchmen ended the quarter with another goal to take a 4-1 lead as Ralston assisted a Colin Hughes score with two seconds left.
 
The Greyhounds opened the scoring in the second quarter to cut the lead in half. LVC countered with two goals in a little over a minute span to increase their lead to 6-2. Hughes scored the first goal and then Bollinger completed his hat trick. The Greyhounds scored two goals of their own before John Lux gave the Dutchmen a 7-4 halftime lead with a man-up goal off Ralston's third assist of the game.
 
Both teams came out strong defensively in the second half as neither team was able to score of the first half of the period. Ralston gave the Dutchmen a 9-4 advantage with two goals in a span of under a minute. Kiviniemi assisted on his first goal and then Dylan Rinyak assisted on the second goal. Moravian stopped the run with a man-up goal with just under six minutes to go. Rowan Myers and Hughes scored unassisted goals over the final five minutes to put the Dutchmen up 11-5 going into the final quarter.
 
Hughes scored the first goal of the fourth quarter with just over 10 minutes on the clock off an assist by Bollinger. The Dutchmen suffocated the Greyhound defense in the fourth quarter as they allowed just three total shots in the first eight minutes. Ralston gave the Dutchmen a 13-5 lead with 6:31 remaining with his third goal of the game off a nice pass from Hayden Carling. Moravian was able to cut into the lead scoring with 5:34 left but that was the last shot the Dutchmen allowed in the game.
 
Inside the Box
  • Ralston recorded his 12th career hat trick on six shots. The junior recorded his 100th career point in the game.
  • Hughes had four goals on four shots and three groundballs. The junior scored his 50th career goal while tying his career-high in goals.
  • Bollinger recorded his second consecutive hat trick to begin the year and added an assist for four points. He also had five groundballs.
  • Kiviniemi had two points on a goal and an assist to extend his streak to 20 straight games with a goal.
  • Myers and Lux scored a goal each for their third goals of the year.
  • Owen Cummins led the defensive effort with five caused turnovers and five groundballs.
  • Sheadan Makosy had five groundballs and two caused turnovers.
  • Kellen Markley made seven saves to earn his first win of the year.

The Dutchmen will continue their road swing to begin the year on Saturday as they travel to Haverford College for a 1 p.m. start.
