Pigeon Named MAC Defensive Player of the Week and UCHC Goaltender of the Week

2/19/2024 1:53:00 PM

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley College men's ice hockey goaltender Gabriel Pigeon was recognized for his efforts against Alvernia University this past Friday, earning a pair of conference weekly awards. The senior was chosen as the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Defensive Player of the Week and the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) Goaltender of the Week, as announced Monday in releases by the conference offices.

Pigeon came up big on Senior Night as the senior goaltender recorded LVC's first shutout of the year, and the first of his career, with 51 saves in a 4-0 victory over Alvernia to keep the Dutchmen alive for a possible UCHC playoff spot in his only action of the week. Pigeon extended the Dutchmen's winning streak to four games with 16 saves in the first period, 13 in the second, and then an amazing 22 saves in the third period. The win allowed the Dutchmen to clinch a second-place finish in the MAC standings.

Pigeon received his first career MAC and UCHC honors. The goaltender is the second consecutive LVC player to be recognized by both conferences in a week, as Cameron Croteau was named MAC Offensive Player of the Week and UCHC Co-Player of the Week last Monday. The Dutchmen earned four MAC honors and three UCHC awards during the 2023-24 season.

Pigeon and Lebanon Valley concluded the campaign this past weekend, splitting the series with Alvernia.
