Women’s Ice Hockey Battles Tough in Series Finale Against Nazareth

HERSHEY, Pa. ­­– Grace Mayer posted a team-high four blocked shots for the Lebanon Valley College women's ice hockey team, as the program dropped a 4-0 game to Nazareth University on Saturday, Feb. 10 at Hersheypark Arena. Goaltender Mia Frisoni also made 50 saves during the contest. 

The defenses of both the Flying Dutchmen and the Golden Flyers dominated during the first period, keeping the game scoreless through the opening 20 minutes. Frisoni helped limit Nazareth early, making 15 saves during the frame. The goaltender made a pair of important saves within two seconds in the 17th minute. On the offensive end, four players sent the puck toward the net for Lebanon Valley. Ava Waugaman and Laura Radford contributed to these efforts, taking a shot on goal each within three seconds in the 10th minute. 

Frisoni also limited the opposition's offensive opportunities early in the second period, saving all six shots on goal she faced in the first 4:31. The Golden Flyers then opened the scoring 5:40 into the frame, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Alexis Kindred. Nazareth added another point 3:04 later, extending its advantage to 2-0 on a power-play goal by Abby Flanagan. 

The Dutchmen continued to battle throughout the second, as three players sent the puck toward the goaltender in the remaining minutes of the period. Maeghan Howson and Brenna Mulcahy both tallied shots on goal within 18 seconds during the last minute of the frame. On the defensive end, Frisoni made nine more saves during the final 11:16 of the second. 

The Golden Flyers scored again 4:10 into the third period, making it a 3-0 contest on a goal by Juliet Rutigliano. Nazareth then took eight shots on goal over the next 7:26, but Frisoni saved each of these attempts. Victoria Scurto and Alexa Spiers also both blocked shots for Lebanon Valley during this span. 

Anna Dale later created an offensive opportunity for the Flying Dutchmen, taking a shot on goal 12:30 into the third frame. The program also continued to compete defensively, as Frisoni posted nine more saves for LVC during the remaining 8:24 of the period. Nazareth then tacked on a point with 34 seconds left, advancing the score to 4-0 on a power-play goal by Abby Flanagan. Lebanon Valley battled until the clock expired, as Dale took two shots on goal while Waugaman and Howson both registered attempts during the final 17 seconds.
