Women’s Ice Hockey Wins Shootout on Senior Day Against Albertus Magnus

HERSHEY, Pa. ­­– Anna Dale netted her seventh goal of the season for the Lebanon Valley College women's ice hockey team, as the program tied Albertus Magnus College 2-2 on Senior Day on Saturday, Feb. 17 at Hersheypark Arena. The Flying Dutchmen then closed out the season by winning the shootout 2-1, with Dale making the shot that secured the victory as well. 

Lebanon Valley honored its four seniors before the game, recognizing Jess Dawe, Grace Mayer, Sloane Herrera, and Victoria Scurto. The program posted a balanced effort during the contest, receiving contributions from several players on both ends of the ice. Cheyenne Wilk also scored a goal during regulation while Scurto made a key shot during the shootout. Defensively, goaltender Mia Frisoni made 30 saves for LVC.

The Dutchmen and the Falcons competed defensively for over 11 minutes at the start, keeping the game in a 0-0 tie over this span. Lebanon Valley limited the opposition's offensive opportunities early, holding Albertus Magnus to just one shot on goal through the scoreless stretch. Frisoni saved the squad's first attempt 2:16 into the frame.

The Flying Dutchmen were also aggressive offensively in the first, sending the puck toward the 19 times in the frame. Scurto, Maeghan Howson, and Katie Pounder contributed to these efforts, taking a shot on goal each within 13 seconds in the ninth minute. Albertus Magnus then opened the scoring 11:38 into the first period, taking a 1-0 lead on a short-handed goal by Kayla Clark. The squads proceeded to battle through the remainder of the first, maintaining the score. Frisoni then made seven saves during the rest of the frame. 

The defenses of both programs continued to dominate in the second period, keeping each other off the board. Frisoni saved all five shots she faced in the frame, including a pair within the first 1:09 of the period. The Dutchmen also blocked five shots by Albertus Magnus in the second, including a block by Julia Schafer during the 15th minute. 

Lebanon Valley generated more scoring chances in frame two, posting 19 additional shots on goal. The team registered three shots on goal within nine seconds in the 13th minute, as Mulcahy sent the puck toward the goaltender twice and Erin Yorke tallied an attempt. Yorke, Pounder, Brenna Mulcahy, and Howson all took three shots on goal in the period. 

The Dutchmen got on the scoreboard just 1:27 into the third period, tying the game at 1-1. Wilk got the offense rolling by sending a shot into the net, following an assist by Scurto. Lebanon Valley scored again 6:13 into the third, taking a 2-1 advantage over Albertus Magnus. Dale got the puck past the goaltender to put the program ahead, courtesy of assists by Tiffany Anderson and Yorke.

The Falcons responded 7:36 into the third period, tying the contest at 2-2 on a power-play goal by Clark. Both squads would then battle through the remaining 12:24 of regulation, keeping the game in a 2-2 stalemate. Albertus Magnus took seven more shots on goal during this stretch, but Frisoni made a save on each attempt. The goaltender made three clutch saves for Lebanon Valley during the 19th minute of the frame. The score was still even at the end of the period, prompting the contest to go into overtime. 

The Flying Dutchmen attempted the first two shots of overtime, as Howson and Yorke both sent the puck toward the goaltender in the opening three minutes. The Falcons proceeded to register five shots on goal over the next 1:15, but Frisoni came through with five clutch saves to limit the opposition. The game remained tied at 2-2 after the five-minute overtime frame, resulting in a tie and sending it to a shootout. 

Frisoni continued to hold the opposition in check, as the first two attempts by Albertus Magnus during the shootout were misses. Scurto then took Lebanon Valley's second shot of the frame and sent the puck past the goaltender, putting the squad up 1-0. The Falcons responded with a successful shot by Molly Martin, tying the score at 1-1. Dale then capped off the shootout by sending a clutch shot into the net, providing LVC with the 2-1 shootout win.

  • Dale scored her seventh goal of the season, marking the most for Lebanon Valley during the 2023-24 campaign. The first-year also led the program with three blocks.
