COLMAR, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College Women's Ice Hockey team delivered a valiant effort, as it dropped a close 1-0 game to Arcadia University on Saturday, Dec. 7 at Hatfield Ice Arena. Goaltender
Mia Frisoni posted another strong performance for LVC with 43 saves, and
Alexis Oukes had a game-high four blocks.
The Dutchmen took the first shot on goal of the afternoon, as
Anna Dale sent a puck toward the net that was saved 1:23 into the first period. Lebanon Valley's defense also worked to limit the Knights early, as Frisoni made her first save at the 3:45 mark while Arcadia was on a power play. LVC also generated an offensive opportunity while on the penalty kill, as Oukes had a shot attempt saved at the 3:57 mark. Frisoni later came through with another save for the Flying Dutchmen 5:00 into the frame, keeping things scoreless. The program then had some big defensive plays during a stretch of 21 seconds in the 10
th minute, when
Madisyn Olson blocked a shot, and Dale tallied two blocks.
Lebanon Valley also kept working to create scoring chances as the opening period progressed, as
Addison Taylert logged a pair of shots on goal that were saved within 10 seconds during the 11
thminute. This was followed by the Knights putting three shots on goal within eight seconds in the 12
thminute, which resulted in three more stops by Frisoni. The goalie then posted two more saves at the 12:22 and 12:40 marks. Later in the frame, the team continued its defensive production with a save by Frisoni at the 15:15 mark and a block by
Tiffany Anderson at the 15:54 mark.
The Dutchmen kept sending shots toward the net as first went on as well, as
Cheyenne Wilk recorded an attempt that was saved at the 16:59 mark. Back on the defensive end, the squad continued to limit the opposition as the end of the first approached. During a 21-second stretch in the 18
th minute, Frisoni made a save, Oukes blocked two shots, and
Leela Nemani registered a block.
The Knights continued to tally shots when the second period got underway, and Frisoni responded with three saves during the first 1:11. The goaltender also made stops for LVC at the 3:13 and 4:23 marks. Lebanon Valley worked to create offensive opportunities as well, as
Madelynn Debelis took a shot on goal that was saved 5:19 into the frame before
Alex Franke had an attempt saved three seconds later. This was followed by an Arcadia shot attempt, which was blocked by
Laura Radford at the 5:52 mark.
Frisoni also kept making stops as the period progressed, recording three saves within 16 seconds in the ninth minute before another at the 10:12 mark. Offensively, Dale sent a shot toward the goalie that was saved 12:16 into the second. The Flying Dutchmen also remained dominant defensively as the period went on, including when
Erin Yorke blocked a shot at the 15:47 mark before Frisoni made three saves in the 17
th minute. Back on the offensive end, this was followed by Anderson taking a shot on goal that was saved at the 16:47 mark before
Chelly Wolff's try was saved 17:10 into the frame. The Knights also attempted to find the net before the end of the second, but Frisoni made a save at the 19:11 mark before
Maeghan Howson blocked a shot three seconds later.
Arcadia kept taking shots at the start of the third period, as Frisoni made two saves within 22 seconds while
Norah McCauliffe tallied a block during the first minute of the frame. Frisoni then posted saves for LVC at the 1:15 and 1:30 marks. The Dutchmen continued to send the puck toward the net as well, as Dale's shot was saved 2:19 into the period before Oukes took a shot that was saved at the 3:40 mark. This was followed by Wolff taking a pair of shots that were saved within four seconds in the sixth minute, before Yorke and Howson each tallied attempts within three seconds in the seventh minute.
Defensively, Oukes and McCauliffe each blocked a shot within eight seconds in the eighth minute. Frisoni also made a save at the 8:18 mark and Wilk tallied a block at the 8:22 mark. Arcadia then got on the scoreboard 9:07 into the third, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Haylee Kos. The Dutchmen countered with a shot on goal by Nemani 11:00 into the period, which was saved. Later in the frame, Olson took a shot for LVC that was saved at the 14:44 mark.
Back on defense, Wolff blocked a shot by the Knights 17:26 into the third. Frisoni then delivered important saves for Lebanon Valley at the 17:33 and 18:15 marks. The Flying Dutchmen also worked to create scoring chances as the end of the period approached, as Oukes took a shot on goal that was saved 18:34 into the frame before McCauliffe's try was saved 20 seconds later. Ultimately, Arcadia went on to preserve its advantage through the conclusion of the game.
