Women’s Ice Hockey Posts Strong Defensive Effort Against Trine

HERSHEY, Pa. ­­– The Lebanon Valley College Women's Ice Hockey team closed out 2024 with a hard-fought game on New Year's Eve, as the program dropped a 1-0 contest to Trine University on Tuesday, Dec. 31 at Hersheypark Arena. Defensively, goaltender Mia Frisoni made 28 saves for LVC while the team blocked nine shots. 

The Dutchmen generated some offensive opportunities early in the first period, as Anna Dale took a shot on goal that was saved 51 seconds into the game before Leela Nemani's attempt was saved at the 2:21 mark. Lebanon Valley was also productive on the defensive end, as Madisyn Olson and Chelly Wolff each blocked a shot within 12 seconds in the fourth minute. Frisoni followed this by making saves at the 3:57 and 4:41 marks. Cheyenne Wilk then blocked a try by Trine 5:49 into the frame, and Frisoni posted a pair of stops within 15 seconds in the seventh minute. 

The Flying Dutchmen also continued to send the puck toward the net as the opening period progressed, as Alex Franke and Julia Schafer each registered a shot on goal that was saved within 15 seconds in the eighth minute. Later in the first, Addison Taylert took a shot that was saved at the 10:54 mark before Dale's attempt was saved at the 13:06 mark. Frisoni also remained dominant, coming through with a pair of stops within 20 seconds in the 14th minute. 

Back on the offensive end, LVC then created more chances with a shot by Sky Campanile that was saved at the 15:09 mark before Norah McCauliffe's try was saved 16:03 into the period. Nemani followed this with an attempt that was saved 17:43 into the first. Trine then took its last shot of the frame at the 19:07 mark, which resulted in another save by Frisoni. The first was capped off with a shot on goal by Erin Yorke during a power play, which was saved with 20 seconds left. 

Lebanon Valley generated a scoring chance just eight seconds into the second period, as Wilk took a shot that was saved while the program remained on the power play. The Thunder countered with a pair of shots on goal, and Frisoni delivered saves for LVC at the 1:02 and 2:23 marks. The Dutchmen responded by sending more shots toward the goalie, as Yorke tallied an attempt before Nemani put two shots on goal during a 41-second stretch that began in the fourth minute. The program also continued its defensive production as Frisoni made a save at the 5:29 mark before Schafer blocked a shot 6:15 into the second. Frisoni followed this with key stops 8:06, 8:08, and 8:52 marks.

McCauliffe also contributed to Lebanon Valley's defensive efforts, blocking a shot by Trine 9:22 into period two. The Thunder then got on the scoreboard 11:20 into the second, taking a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal by Payton Hans. Later in the frame, Tiffany Anderson blocked a shot, and Frisoni logged a save within five seconds in the 15th minute. The Dutchmen also kept battling offensively, as Wilk had a shot saved 15:03 into the period, and Yorke registered a try that was saved at the 16:18 mark. Trine followed this by attempting a pair of shots within 17 seconds into the 17th minute, but Olson and Yorke both came through with blocks. LVC responded with a pair of shots on goal by Anderson and a try by Campanile, which were saved within 30 seconds in the 18th minute. The Thunder wrapped up the second with three more shots on goal during the last minute, and Frisoni saved each attempt.

The Flying Dutchmen kept working to create offensive opportunities when the third period got underway, as Maeghan Howson sent a puck toward the net that was saved at the 1:38 mark. The programs then proceeded to go back and forth defensively until Frisoni recorded a save 4:44 into the frame. LVC responded with a shot on goal by Franke, which was saved at the 5:14 mark. This was followed by Frisoni delivering a save for Lebanon Valley 7:17 into the third before another at the 12:29 mark. Offensively, McCauliffe then took a shot that was saved 13:11 into the period. 

Frisoni also continued to battle as the third period progressed, posting a stop at the 13:36 mark before three more in the 15th minute. The goaltender also made a key save for the Dutchmen 15:44 into the frame. Back on the offensive end, Najla Hatem tallied a shot on goal that was saved at the 16:49 mark before Taylert's try was saved at the 17:08 mark. The Thunder countered with a couple of opportunities within 12 seconds in the last minute, but LVC's defense responded with a block by McCauliffe and a save by Frisoni. Lebanon Valley then kept battling until the clock expired, as Dale took a shot on goal that was saved with two seconds remaining. Ultimately, Trine preserved its 1-0 advantage through the end of the game.
