COLMAR, Pa. – Goaltender
Mia Frisoni made 44 saves for the Lebanon Valley College Women's Ice Hockey team, as the program dropped a hard-fought 1-0 contest to Arcadia University on Friday, Dec. 6 at Hatfield Ice Arena.
The Dutchmen generated some offensive opportunities early in the first period, as
Leela Nemani took a shot on goal that was saved at the 1:45 mark before
Alex Franke registered an attempt that was saved shortly after. Lebanon Valley's defense was also productive from the start, keeping the opposition from taking a shot on goal for nearly the first five minutes. The Knights sent a shot toward the net 4:54 into the frame, which was stopped by Frisoni. The goaltender later faced five shots on goal during the eighth minute and came through with saves on each try.
Frisoni continued this strong effort as the opening period progressed, logging a pair of stops within five seconds at the start of the ninth minute. This was followed by
Laura Radford blocking a shot by Arcadia 8:33 into the first. On the offensive end,
Alexis Oukes created a scoring chance with a shot on goal that was saved at the 9:54 mark. In the 12
th minute, Lebanon Valley's defense continued to produce when Frisoni made two saves within three seconds, and
Tiffany Anderson blocked a shot at the 11:26 mark.
Norah McCauliffe then blocked another shot 12:37 into the period.
Later in the first period,
Jess Dawe and
Cheyenne Wilk contributed to these defensive efforts by each blocking a shot within 16 seconds in the 17
th minute. The Flying Dutchmen also tallied more shots before the end of the first period, as Anderson took a shot that was saved at the 17:26 mark. Frisoni then made her 16
th save of the game 18:51 into the first. LVC's offense closed out the frame by Dawe putting a shot on goal that was saved with two seconds left.
Frisoni continued to deliver a strong effort when the second period got underway, making saves for Lebanon Valley at the 1:44 and 1:56 marks. The Dutchmen responded with an offensive opportunity, as
Madelynn Debelis took a shot that was saved 2:08 into the second. Arcadia then went on a power play that began in the third minute, and LVC's defense produced two more saves by Frisoni and blocks by Radford and
Anna Dale. The program also continued to send shots toward the net as the period progressed, as Nemani took a shot that was saved at the 7:37 mark before
Addison Taylert's attempt was saved eight seconds later.
Sky Campanile also later recorded a shot that was saved 11:33 into the frame.
The Knights logged more shots during the second period as well, but Frisoni came through with saves at the 13:47, 13:55, and 14:09 marks. This was followed by Radford blocking another shot 14:31 into the frame. Back on the offensive end, Campanile sent a shot toward the goaltender that was saved at the 15:08 mark. Arcadia then got on the scoreboard 15:40 into the second, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Kianna Saillant. Lebanon Valley countered with a shot on goal by Dale, which was saved at the 16:30 mark. Frisoni also kept battling during the remainder of the frame, making four more saves.
The Flying Dutchmen and the Knights went back and forth defensively early in the third period, as neither program took a shot on goal for over seven minutes at the start. Wilk contributed to LVC's strong defensive performance during this stretch, blocking a shot at the 6:34 mark. Frisoni then made a pair of saves within four seconds in the eighth minute. Additionally, the goaltender delivered three more stops during the 10
th minute to limit the opposition. The Dutchmen also continued to receive defensive contributions from several players as the period went on, as McCauliffe, Dale, and Wilk each blocked a shot within 26 seconds in minute 11.
Lebanon Valley kept working to create scoring chances during the third frame as well, as Wilk logged a shot on goal that was saved at the 15:48 mark. Later in the period, Dale took a shot that was saved 17:06 into the third before Nemani also had an attempt saved at the 17:55 mark. Back on the defensive end, Frisoni then made saves at the 18:26, 19:30, and 19:51 marks to limit the Knights. Ultimately, Arcadia maintained its one-goal advantage through the end of play.
