ASTON, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College Women's Ice Hockey team continued its strong start to the season with its third consecutive win, defeating Neumann University 4-0 on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Ice Works Rink #4. The Dutchmen (3-0-0, 2-0-0 MAC) were productive defensively from the start, as
Erin Yorke blocked a shot seven seconds into the contest.
Norah McCauliffe then blocked a pair of shots by the Knights (1-3-0, 0-2-0 MAC) within 11 seconds in the first minute before Bigelow made her first save at the 1:01 mark. The Flying Dutchmen were also aggressive offensively early in the first period, putting 10 shots on goal in the first 10 minutes. The program took five shots on goal during a power play that started in the eighth minute. During this stretch,
Leela Nemani and
Maeghan Howson each took a shot that was saved within 11 seconds before
Addison Taylert registered a pair of attempts that were saved within 11 seconds.
Lebanon Valley opened the scoring 10:08 into the first period, taking a 1-0 lead over Neumann. The team got on the board with a goal by Dale, courtesy of assists by
Tiffany Anderson and
Julia Schafer. The Knights countered with a shot on goal at the 13:41 mark, but Bigelow was there to make the stop for LVC. The Dutchmen also continued to send shots toward the net, as Taylert's attempt was saved at the 15:56 mark, and Nemani took a shot that was saved at the 17:25 mark. Both of these attempts came during power plays.
Lebanon Valley then added another tally 17:31 into the first period, taking a 2-0 advantage. Nemani found the net on a power-play goal to put the team up by two, following assists by
Cheyenne Wilk and
Brysha Schmidt. Defensively, Bigelow continued her strong effort with saves at the 18:43, 18:45, and 19:24 marks.
The Flying Dutchmen generated a pair of offensive opportunities during a power play at the beginning of the second period, as Anderson took a shot that was saved 47 seconds in before Nemani's attempt was saved at the 1:33 mark. LVC later followed this with a shot by
Sky Campanile that was saved 3:19 into the second before Anderson's attempt was saved four seconds later. Neumann responded with a shot at the 3:35 mark, which resulted in another save by Bigelow. Lebanon Valley's defense came through again during a power play when
Alexis Oukes blocked a shot at the 5:56 mark and Bigelow made a save 6:30 into the second.
The programs kept going back and forth defensively as period two progressed, as both sides worked to limit the opposition. Lebanon Valley's defense remained stellar, as Schafer blocked a shot 13:21 into the period, and Bigelow registered a save at the 15:46 mark. The Dutchmen also created more offensive opportunities, registering four more shots on goal during the remaining minutes of the second period. Dale sent a shot toward the net that was saved 16:16 into the frame before Anderson's attempt was saved 43 seconds later.
Alex Franke then took a shot for LVC that was saved at the 17:35 mark, and Schafer tallied a try that was saved with two seconds to go.
Lebanon Valley recorded some more shots on goal when the third period got underway, as Howson tallied an attempt that was saved 55 seconds into the frame before Yorke's try was saved at the 1:39 mark. Bigelow also remained dominant as the third went on, making four saves during a Neumann power play that started in the third minute. The goaltender later came through with big stops at the 6:44 and 6:54 marks.
The Dutchmen then found the net again 9:04 into the third period, claiming a 3-0 advantage. The squad went up by three on a short-handed goal by Dale. Lebanon Valley later tacked on an insurance point at the 13:43 mark, going ahead 4-0 over Neumann. Yorke made it a four-goal game by sending a shot past the goalie. The programs followed this by competing defensively for the remainder of play. Bigelow faced just one shot during the final minutes and made a save with 23 seconds left, securing LVC's 4-0 victory.
