Dutchmen Women’s Ice Hockey Defeats Neumann Behind Offensive Clinic

ASTON, Pa. – Anna Dale's two goals led a strong offensive effort for the Lebanon Valley College Women's Ice Hockey team, as the program posted a dominant 5-0 victory over Neumann University on Friday, Nov. 8 at Ice Works Rink #4. The Flying Dutchmen had several impactful performers during the win, as nine players recorded a point.

The Dutchmen (2-0-0, 1-0-0 MAC) and the Knights (1-2-0, 0-1-0 MAC) battled defensively in the first period, keeping each other off the scoreboard through the first 20 minutes. Lebanon Valley worked to generate opportunities on the offensive end in the opening frame, as Dale took a shot that was saved 2:19 into the contest before Julia Schafer's attempt was saved at the 2:38 mark. This was followed by the squad taking three shots on goal during a 46-second stretch that started in the fourth minute, which included shots on goal by Chelly Wolff, Addison Taylert, and Brysha Schmidt.

Neumann countered with a pair of shot attempts, but the first of these attempts was blocked by Norah McCauliffe at the 5:13 mark before Dale tallied a block 6:59 into the frame. Goaltender Mia Frisoni faced the first shot on goal of the game by the Knights at the 9:39 mark, and registered a save. Frisoni also later came through with important stops for LVC 13:39 into the first and at the 13:51 mark. The Dutchmen kept creating scoring chances through the remainder of the first as well, putting six more shots on goal. Cheyenne Wilk accounted for three shots during this stretch, including a pair within four seconds in the last minute of the first.

The programs continued to go back and forth defensively when the second period got underway, keeping things scoreless for over 12 more minutes. Neumann took the first shot of the frame at the 1:43 mark, but Frisoni was there to make the stop. The Flying Dutchmen continued to send shots toward the net as well, as Tiffany Anderson and Sky Campanile each had attempts that were saved within nine seconds in the third minute. Later in the second, Leela Nemani logged a try that was saved at the 10:58 mark before a shot by Alexis Oukes was saved 12:27 into the period.

The Dutchmen opened the scoring 12:47 into the second period, taking a 1-0 lead over the Knights. The team got on the board with a goal by Dale, following assists by Oukes and Anderson. The Knights quickly responded with a pair of shots on goal in the 14th minute, and both resulted in saves by Frisoni. LVC also remained productive defensively as the second period progressed, as Frisoni made another stop at the 14:07 mark, and Anderson blocked a shot at the 17:59 mark. Lebanon Valley found the net again with 49 seconds left in period two, taking a 2-0 advantage. The program scored on a goal by Alex Franke, courtesy of assists by McCauliffe and Nemani.

The Flying Dutchmen didn't waste any time adding another tally in the third period, extending their lead to 3-0 just 2:30 into the frame. Dale netted her second goal of the night, after assists by Campanile Laura Radford. The squad also kept taking shots as the third went on, as Nemani, Wilk, and Oukes each took a shot that was saved within three seconds in the third minute. Lebanon Valley then tacked on another 5:35 into the third, advancing the score to 4-0. The squad went up by four after a goal by Chelly Wolff, which was assisted by Wilk and Nemani.

LVC also kept producing defensively as the third period rolled on, as Radford blocked a shot 8:51 into the frame before Frisoni posted another save at the 9:14 mark. This was followed by Wilk blocking a shot 9:36 into the third before a stop by Frisoni nine seconds later. The Dutchmen then added an insurance point 12:01 into the third period, making it a 5-0 contest on a goal by Erin Yorke with an assist from Maeghan Howson. Frisoni continued her strong performance as the end of the contest approached, tallying five saves in the remaining minutes.
