HERSHEY, Pa. – Maeghan Howson and
Alex Franke both scored goals for the Lebanon Valley College Women's Ice Hockey team, propelling the program to a 2-1 victory over Alvernia University on Saturday, Nov. 23 at Hersheypark Arena.
The Golden Wolves (4-3-1, 2-3-1 MAC) took the first shot of the night 1:01 into the first period, but goaltender
Mia Frisoni was there to make the save for the Dutchmen (6-0-1, 5-0-1 MAC). Lebanon Valley's offense countered with some offensive opportunities, as
Sky Campanile and
Anna Dale each tallied shots on goal that were saved within 16 seconds in the third minute. Dale also contributed on the defensive end, blocking a shot at the 5:22 mark. Later in the period,
Laura Radford and
Erin Yorke both put shots on goal that were saved within eight seconds in the eighth minute. Alvernia responded with a try 8:08 into the first, which resulted in another save by Frisoni.
The Flying Dutchmen continued to send the puck toward the net as the opening period progressed, as Franke took a shot on goal at the 13:44 mark. The program then recorded three attempts on goal within six seconds in the 16
th minute, as
Leela Nemani took two shots that were saved before
Cheyenne Wilk's try was saved. Lebanon Valley's defense kept working to limit the opposition as well, as Frisoni made a stop at the 16:07 mark before
Tiffany Anderson and
Alexis Oukes each blocked a shot within 12 seconds in the 18
th minute. Frisoni also came through for LVC with saves at the 17:34 and 17:36 marks. The Dutchmen then created some more chances on the offensive end before the end of the period, putting three more shots on goal. Campanile took the last attempt of the first, which was saved with 33 seconds to go.
Lebanon Valley opened the scoring just 2:47 into the second period, taking a 1-0 lead over Alvernia. The team got on the board with a goal by Franke, following assists from Dale and Radford. The Golden Wolves attempted to answer with a shot on goal at the 4:28 mark, but Frisoni made her sixth save. The Flying Dutchmen also kept generating offensive opportunities, as Nemani sent a shot toward the net that was saved 5:31 into the period. Later in the frame, Frisoni came through for the program defensively with a pair of saves within 24 seconds in the ninth minute.
Frisoni faced more shots on goal at the 8:31 and 9:53 marks and tallied stops on both attempts.
Norah McCauliffe also made an impact for the Dutchmen defensively, blocking a shot 11:31 into the second period before blocking another at the 12:04 mark. Frisoni remained dominant as the frame went on as well, making saves on three consecutive shots during the 16
th minute. Lebanon Valley also sent a few more shots toward the net as the end of the frame approached, as Dale took two shots that were saved within four seconds in the 19
th minute, while Wilk and Anderson each had attempts saved in the final minute.
The Dutchmen created a scoring chance just six seconds into the third period, as Dale sent a puck toward the net that was stopped. On the defensive end, Frisoni faced three shots on goal by the Golden Wolves within the first 2:27 and made saves on all three attempts. The goaltender later delivered important stops for Lebanon Valley at the 5:57 and 6:35 marks. Dale also halted an offensive opportunity for the opposition with a block 7:09 into the period. This was followed by
Jess Dawe blocking a shot at the 8:11 mark before Frisoni logged a save at the 9:51 mark.
Lebanon Valley's offense also took more shots as the third frame progressed, as Nemani and
Addison Taylert each had attempts that were saved within 14 seconds in the 12
th minute. The Dutchmen later added a point at the 16:04 mark, taking a 2-0 advantage. Howson found the net on a power-play goal to put the program up by two, courtesy of assists by Oukes and Nemani. Alvernia followed this with shots on goal at the 18:18, 18:29, and 18:39 marks, and Frisoni came through with three more important saves for LVC. Alvernia then scored with 50 seconds to go in the contest, narrowing the score to 2-1 on an extra-attacker goal by Emma Hart. Lebanon Valley's defense responded by continuing to produce until the clock expired, as Nemani blocked a shot with just six seconds left to secure the victory.
