ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Field Hockey team posted another dominating performance on Saturday evening to defeat Delaware Valley University 4-0 on Senior Night in the final game of the regular season. The win clinched a spot in the MAC Freedom Tournament where LVC will be the fourth seed.
The Dutchmen (15-3, 5-2 MAC Freedom) limited the Aggies (8-12, 3-4 MAC Freedom) to just one total shot all game. Delaware Valley was awarded the first penalty corner of the game in the fourth minute and the Dutchmen made quick work as the insertion went by the Aggie forward and LVC started the transition to the other side of the field. The Dutchmen quickly brought the ball down the field and earned a corner of their own.
Jenna Angstadt had her shot blocked off the corner and then
Lexi Ward sent a shot wide a minute later. The Dutchmen got on the board in the 11th minute as
Claire Weidenhammer sent a cross in from the left side. Ward gathered the ball and found
Lauren Foster at the right post who knocked the ball in for her fifth goal of the year.
LVC nearly added to the lead early in the second quarter as Angstadt's shot in the 21st minute was kicked away. The Aggies were able to get off their only shot of the game in the 23rd minute as
Ella Weidenhammer made easy work of the shot and kicked it away for a save. The Dutchmen closed out the half with a goal by
Jillian Tait in the 28th minute to take a 2-0 lead. Weidenhammer sent a crossing pass to Tait who was able to beat the keeper for her third goal of the season.
Weidenhammer wasted little time in the second half to extend the lead as she scored on a big blast 53 seconds in off a nice pass from the right side by Ward. The Dutchmen kept the pressure on as Ward had a shot saved in the 35th minute and Angstadt had her two rebound attempts kicked away. LVC earned a series of five consecutive corners in the 38th and 39th minutes and had two shots blocked while
Mel Mercado had her blast from the top of the circle saved. Weidenhammer added her second goal of the game in the 40th minute as she received a long pass from Long and beat the keeper to the right in the middle of the circle.
LVC held the Aggies off the scoreboard the rest of the way and allowed just one penalty corner that was quickly defended to preserve another shutout. The Dutchmen outshot the Aggies 15-0 in the second half putting 10 shots on goal.
