CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Field Hockey team had another strong defensive performance on Wednesday afternoon as the Dutchmen defeated Wilson College 2-0 in Chambersburg.
The Dutchmen improved to 10-1 while recording the seventh shutout of the season. Wilson dropped to 8-2 as LVC stopped a seven-game winning streak by the Phoenix. The teams battled early in the game as LVC got used to playing its first game on grass this season. The Phoenix were able to take the first two shots of the game early in the fifth minute as
Ella Weidenhammer made a pair of saves in goal. The Dutchmen responded with a strong attack with five shots on goal in a span of 20 seconds.
Claire Weidenhammer and
Jillian Tait had two shots each while
Gracie Johnson took a shot during the run that resulted in five saves for the Wilson goalie.
The Dutchmen earned a penalty corner after the fifth shot in which
Sorrell Long had her attempt from the top of the circle blocked. Tait had another shot on goal saved in the 11th minute and shots by Weidenhammer and
Lexi Ward went wide to finish out the first quarter of action. The Dutchmen held the Phoenix without a shot in a defensive second quarter. LVC took the only three shots of the quarter as Weidenhammer had two attempts saved and
Lauren Foster sent a shot wide.
Weidenhammer gave the Dutchmen the lead seven minutes into the second half with her 10th goal of the year. Wilson responded with a shot in the 40th minute that was kept out of the cage by Weidenhammer in goal. The Phoenix were able to get off a shot after a penalty corner as Weidenhammer made another big save and then the rebound attempt was blocked. The Dutchmen earned a penalty corner early in the fourth quarter and nearly scored the second goal of the game as
Jenna Angstadt had her shot saved.
Lauren Foster scored an insurance goal for the Dutchmen in the 54th minute off an assist by Long. Wilson had a couple of opportunities in the final five minutes as Weidenhammer stopped a shot in the 57th minute and then a 60th minute shot went wide.
Inside the Box
- Claire Weidenhammer scored her team-leading 10th goal of the year on six shots. She has now scored in three consecutive games.
- Foster scored her third goal of the year on three shots.
- Long recorded her team-leading sixth assist of the year. The midfielder recorded her 45th career point with the assist.
- Ella Weidenhammer made five saves to pick up her sixth shutout of the year.
- The Dutchmen had a 16-7 shot advantage and put 12 shots on goal compared to five for the Phoenix.

LVC begins conference play on Saturday with a Homecoming matchup against Misericordia University. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start on Arnold Field.
