ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Field Hockey team celebrated Homecoming with a dominating performance in a 3-0 victory over Misericordia University on Saturday evening at Arnold Field in Annville.
The Dutchmen (11-1, 1-0 Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom) did not allow the Cougars (4-8, 0-1 MAC Freedom) to take a shot until the 55th minute. Offensively, LVC controlled possession most of the game and limited Misericordia from advancing the ball into the circle. The Cougars had three penalty corners in the game but were unable to get a shot on goal against LVC's stout defense.
Abby Rodenberger took the first shot of the game early in the fifth minute as her attempt off a penalty corner sailed wide of the cage. A few minutes later
Gracie Johnson had her shot saved before
Jenna Angstadt and
Lexi Ward sent shots wide. The Dutchmen put a lot of pressure on the Cougar defense in the 26th minute with four penalty corners and three shots. Rodenberger had her shot blocked on the first corner and then
Mel Mercado's shot was saved off the second. The Dutchmen took the lead early in the 27th minute as
Lauren Foster scored her fourth goal of the year off an assist by
Rebecca Lane.
Sorrell Long doubled the lead early in the second half with her fourth penalty stroke goal of the year. A little over a minute later Ward increased the lead as she beat the keeper for her fifth goal of the year. Misericordia's only shot of the game came off the team's second penalty corner in the 55th minute and was blocked.
