Field Hockey Posts Fifth Consecutive Shutout at King’s

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Field Hockey team had three different goal scorers in a 3-0 victory at King's College on Wednesday evening at a chilly McCarthy Stadium in Wilkes-Barre.

LVC (12-1, 2-0 MAC Freedom) scored a goal in each of the first three quarters and used a stifling defensive effort to record a fifth consecutive shutout. The Dutchmen earned a penalty corner in the second minute of play. Jenna Angstadt had her shot blocked and her rebound attempt was saved by the goalie. A minute later, Sorrell Long had her shot from the middle of the circle stopped by the keeper leading to a penalty corner. Angstadt's attempt on the corner went just wide of the cage.

LVC continued putting pressure on the King's defense and broke through for the first goal of the game in the seventh minute following a penalty corner. Reese Arnold was able to poke the ball past the keeper and into the back of the cage for her first career goal off an assist by Rebecca Lane. King's took the ball off the restart and earned a corner at the other end of the field. The Monarchs' first shot of the game was blocked off the corner attempt. LVC controlled possession for the rest of the quarter but was not able to get a shot on goal.

The Dutchmen had another corner early in the second quarter and Long's shot from the top of the circle was kicked away. Gracie Johnson and Long had back-to-back shots saved in the 23rd minute as LVC pressed for another goal. That goal came a minute later 10 seconds after King's received a green card as Johnson found the back of the cage off a feed from Lexi Ward. The Dutchmen had a pair of penalty corners late in the period but were unable to get a shot off.

Abby Rodenberger had her shot attempt two minutes into the second half sail just wide of the cage before Angstadt had her shot from the left side saved. Johnson had a shot saved in the 37th minute that led to a penalty corner. Rodenberger received the input from Johnson and sent a pass over to the left side for Angstadt who fired a shot inside the left post for the third goal of the game. LVC kept the pressure on as Lane, Long, and Olivia Lobecker had shots saved over the final eight minutes of the quarter.

Lauren Foster took the first shot of the fourth quarter in the 50th minute as her attempt went wide. The teams battled back and forth for the first 10 minutes of the quarter with neither team able to get a good look at the cage for a shot on goal. The Monarchs threatened to score in the 57th minute putting three consecutive shots on goal. Lauren Jancsarics stopped all three attempts to preserve the shutout.
