Dutchmen Field Hockey Dominates in 4-0 Victory over FDU-Florham

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Field Hockey team put together another impressive performance on Saturday as they held visiting FDU-Florham to just one total shot in a 4-0 victory over the Devils on Arnold Field.

LVC (13-1, 3-0 MAC Freedom) held the Devils (6-8, 1-2 MAC Freedom) to just one total shot which came in the first couple minutes of the game. FDU-Florham earned the first penalty corner of the game near the minute mark. The Devils were able to get a shot off following the corner, but it went wide of the cage. Jenna Angstadt took LVC's first shot of the game in the fourth minute which went wide. The Dutchmen had a flurry of chances in the 12th minute off a pair of penalty corners, but Abby Rodenberger had three shots saved before Mel Mercado's blast from just inside the circle was kicked away. Claire Weidenhammer gave the Dutchmen a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute as she tallied her team-leading 11th goal of the year off an assist by Jillian Tait.

The Dutchmen came out of the quarter break strong and pressed the Devils defense as they looked for another goal. Sorrell Long had a shot blocked while Lexi Ward and Weidenhammer had shots saved. Gracie Johnson scored on a blast from the left side on a penalty corner in the 24th minute to double the lead. Johnson inserted the corner to Long at the top of the circle. Long then passed it back to Johnson who fired off a hard shot into the back of the cage. A few minutes later Johnson had another great look at the cage off another corner, but this time the Devils goalie was able to stop the ball for a save.

FDU-Florham had a pair of penalty corners in the first 10 minutes of a defensive third quarter. Both times the Dutchmen were able to successfully defend the corner without allowing a shot attempt. Tait and Johnson took the only two shots on the period in the final five minutes with both attempts being saved. It didn't take long for the Dutchmen to score in the fourth quarter as Angstadt scored 27 seconds into the beginning of the quarter off a nice crossing pass from Ward. The Dutchmen didn't let up as Weidenhammer, Angstadt, Mercado, and Ward all had shots saved in the first 10 minutes of the quarter.
