ANNVILLE, Pa. – Darrian Berkheimer scored a goal for the Lebanon Valley College Women's Soccer team, as the program dropped a 5-1 contest to No. 5 Misericordia University in its Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom opener on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Herbert Field.
The Dutchmen were productive defensively early, as they kept the Cougars off the scoreboard during the first 9:26 of the match, despite facing four shots in this stretch. Misericordia registered the first shot on goal of the afternoon at the 2:19 mark, but goalkeeper
Camryn Porter was there to make the save for Lebanon Valley. The first-year goalie also came through with important stops for LVC at the 6:22 and 9:26 marks.
The Flying Dutchmen then opened the scoring 10:55 into the game, taking an early 1-0 lead over the Cougars. The program got on the board after Berkheimer sent a goal into the center of the net, following an assist by
Jordan Lasky. Misericordia answered with a penalty kick goal by Julia Beck 13:21 into the stanza, tying things up at 1-1. Porter faced another shot by the opposition 16:24 into the contest and recorded her fourth save of the day.
Lebanon Valley also worked to generate offensive opportunities as the opening half progressed, as Lasky sent a shot toward the goalkeeper that was saved at the 23:11 mark. The Cougars then scored again 29:40 into the first, taking a 2-1 advantage on a goal by Alyssa Steenback. The programs would proceed to battle defensively through the end of the first half, prompting Misericordia to take this one-goal advantage into halftime.
The Cougars put another point on the board 1:04 into the second half, going ahead 3-1 on a header shot by Beck that went into the net. Misericordia kept registering shots on goal as the frame went on, and Porter continued to deliver a strong effort by making saves for LVC at the 47:26, 52:20, and 54:09 marks. Porter then had another stop on a shot near the top of the net, 61:16 into the match. The Dutchmen followed this with an attempt at the 66:24 mark, as
Meredith Mantione took a shot that went to the right of the net.
The Cougars found the net again at the 71:02 mark, making it a 4-1 game on a goal by Haleigh Wintersteen. Misericordia followed this with a goal by Emma Sweitzer 75:50 into the contest, advancing the score to 5-1. Lebanon Valley continued to battle as the game neared the 90
th minute, as
Megan Ressler created a scoring chance by taking a shot that went to the left of the net at the 83:34 mark. Defensively, Porter logged her ninth save of the day at the 85:40 mark. Ultimately, the score was maintained through the end of play.
