OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Teaguen Reynolds posted seven total blocks in two matches for the Lebanon Valley Volleyball team on Saturday in a pair of contests against Stevenson University and Drew University in Owings Mills. The host Mustangs defeated LVC 3-2 in the first match of the day and then Drew won the second match 3-0 over the Dutchmen.
Game One vs. Stevenson
The Dutchmen and Mustangs needed five sets to decide a winner. Stevenson won the first set 25-21 before LVC took the next two sets 27-25 and 25-20. The Mustangs extended the match with a 25-16 win in set four and then won the deciding set 15-8.
Kills by
Taylor McInerney and
Libby Lindau gave the Dutchmen an early 3-1 lead in the first set. Three consecutive points by the Mustangs allowed Stevenson to take a 4-3 lead.
Margaret Cole tied the match at four and then LVC scored the next three points with
Jasmine Sullivan serving. The teams traded runs throughout the set and an
Abigail Souder ace gave the Dutchmen a 13-10 advantage. The lead was 16-12 after a
Mattea Penner kill but Stevenson used an 8-3 run to take a 20-19 lead. The Mustangs closed the set strong by winning five of the next seven points.
The momentum carried into the beginning of the second set as Stevenson jumped out to a 4-0 lead. LVC slowly cut into the advantage and was able to tie things up at nine following a 4-0 run with
Lyla Arfanella serving up two aces. Reynolds gave the Dutchmen the team's first lead of the set at 14-13 off a kill. The Mustangs responded with a run and got to 20 points first.
Jillian Jefferys cut it to 20-19 and then Stevenson made five consecutive attack errors to put the Dutchmen on set point. Four consecutive points tied the match at 24 before LVC won the set on a Jefferys kill and a
Sofia Okronley ace.
The third set started similar to the second with Stevenson winning the first three points and LVC slowly closing the gap. The Dutchmen used a 5-1 run to take the lead at 7-6 and then the teams traded points until the set was tied at 13. The set was still tied at 19 when Reynolds, Lindau, Penner, and Okronley scored four consecutive points to put LVC up 23-19. Penner put the Dutchmen at set point and then Reynolds recorded a block to give the Dutchmen a 2-1 lead.
Stevenson scored the first seven points of the fourth set. The lead grew to 10-2 before the Dutchmen used a 6-2 run to cut the advantage down to four points. Stevenson responded with a run of their own to increase the lead to 19-11. McInerney had back-to-back kills and LVC was able to come as close as five points. Stevenson scored six of the next eight points to send the match into a fifth set.
LVC got off to a great start in the fifth set winning four of the first five points. The Mustangs won the next 11 points to go up 12-4. The Dutchmen kept fighting and cut it down to 12-7 but the Mustangs won three of the next four points to win the set and the match.
Inside the Box
- LVC played the third five set match of the year and are now 1-2 in five-setters.
- McInerney had a team-high 17 kills and hit .357.
- Penner finished with 12 kills and 18 digs. It is her second match of the year with a double-double.
- Reynolds had three total blocks with one solo block and two block assists.
- Cole had a solo block and three block assists.
- Souder led the squad with 20 digs and served up two aces.
- Arfanella had two aces and 13 digs while Okronley had 16 digs and two aces with 23 assists.
- Sullivan had 17 assists and an ace.
Game Two vs. Drew
Drew won in straight sets by scores of 25-22, 25-17, and 25-20. The Rangers got out to a 5-1 lead in the opening set. McInerney had a pair of kills and Cole recorded a block to cut the lead to 8-6. The teams traded points until a block by Jefferys and an attack error brought the Dutchmen within one. Drew won seven of the next 10 points to build the lead back up to four. Lindau had back-to-back kills to make it 21-19 and then McInerney kept the Dutchmen in the set with three kills. The Rangers were able to hold the rally off and won the opening set.
The second set started with five straight points by the Rangers and then four points by the Dutchmen. The teams battled until a 4-0 run by Drew gave them a 13-8 lead. Reynolds had blocks on back-to-back points to cut it to 17-14 but that was as close as LVC got in the second set as Drew won eight of the next 11 points. McInerney had three kills in the run by Drew.
Drew won three of the first four points of the third set before a 6-1 run by the Dutchmen. LVC took the team's first lead of the set on a McInerney kill and then
Kathryn Sansom gave LVC a two-point advantage. Reynolds and Samsom had a block to keep the two-point lead at 11-9 before the Rangers scored four straight points. The Rangers led 17-14 when a service error and two kills by McInerney tied the set up. LVC took a 19-18 lead, but Drew responded with six straight points to reach match point. LVC held off match point on another kill by McInerney before the Rangers were able to clinch the win.

- McInerney had 17 kills for the second consecutive match and hit .343. with three block assists.
- Reynolds had four block assists to give her seven total blocks on the afternoon.
- Okroney had 13 assists and eight digs while Souder added eight digs and four assists.
- Sullivan finished with seven assists and four digs.
Up Next
LVC returns to conference play on Wednesday evening with an important road match at Arcadia University. The Dutchmen and Knights will faceoff at 7 p.m. in a rematch of last year's MAC Freedom semifinal won by LVC.
