ANNVILLE, Pa. – Megan Ressler and
Abrielle Miller netted clutch goals for the Lebanon Valley College Women's Soccer team, leading the program to a big 2-1 victory over DeSales University in its final home game of the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at Herbert Field.
The Dutchmen (7-8-2, 1-3-2 MAC Freedom) and the Bulldogs (5-11-2, 2-3-1 MAC Freedom) went back and forth on the defensive end at the start, as the programs kept each other off the scoreboard for over 31 minutes at the start. DeSales took the first shot on goal of the day, but goalkeeper
Camryn Porter was there to make the save for LVC at the 3:46 mark. Lebanon Valley also generated some offensive opportunities early, as
Sophia Floyd took a shot that went to the right of the net 12:04 into the match before registering an attempt that was saved at the 16:43 mark.
The Dutchmen continued to send shots toward the net as the first half progressed, as Miller took a shot that went to the right of the net 25:32 into the stanza. Lebanon Valley then opened the scoring at the 31:25 mark, taking a 1-0 lead over DeSales. Berkheimer took a corner kick for LVC that went into the box, which led to Miller sending a goal into the right side of the net.
The Flying Dutchmen kept creating scoring chances as the opening stanza went on, as
Emily Miller took a shot that was saved 31:54 into the game before Berkheimer tallied a try that was saved at the 35:39 mark.
Mikayla Mitchell also contributed to the program's offensive efforts, recording a shot that went above the net at the 43:58 mark. Lebanon Valley took this one-goal advantage into halftime.
Porter remained productive defensively for the Dutchmen when the second half got underway, making another save at the 52:42 mark. The squad's offense then generated a pair of opportunities in the 67
th minute, as
Chloe Moser and Ressler each tallied a shot within six seconds. The Bulldogs later logged another shot on goal at the 71:19 mark, which resulted in Porter's third stop of the afternoon.
Lebanon Valley added to its lead 82:07 into the game, putting the team ahead 2-0 against DeSales. The program went up by two when Ressler fired a shot into the left corner of the net, courtesy of an assist by
Jordan Lasky. The Bulldogs responded with a goal by Jaden Cook at the 85:52 mark, narrowing the score to 2-1. The Dutchmen followed this by keeping the opposition from taking another shot in the remaining minutes, as the team held on to secure the big 2-1 victory.
