HOBOKEN, N.J. – Lebanon Valley Field Hockey goalie
Ella Weidenhammer made a season-high 12 saves in a tough 1-0 defeat at Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon at the DeBaun Athletic Complex in Hoboken, N.J.
Stevens (11-5, 4-1 MAC Freedom) came out strong against the Dutchmen (13-3, 3-2 MAC Freedom) earning a penalty corner in the second minute of action. The defense held strong with two blocked shots. Midway through the first quarter the Ducks earned two more corners, and the Dutchmen came up with a pair of big saves on each attempt. Weidenhammer saved a shot on the first corner and then
Amelia Taube had a huge defensive save off the second insertion. Weidenhammer added two more saves in the final minute to keep the game scoreless.
LVC earned their first corner of the game early in the second quarter and
Jenna Angstadt found space for a shot off the corner. Her shot was knocked away by the goalie for a save. The Dutchmen kept the pressure up and
Claire Weidenhammer had a shot saved in the 24th minute. Stevens had the final shot of the half in the 26th minute which was blocked by the LVC defense.
The teams battled back and forth for the first half of the third period. Stevens was able to score the lone goal of the game in the 40th minute as Weidenhammer made a great diving stop on the first shot and then Stevens was able to score on the rebound. Stevens looked to add to the lead in the final five minutes with a trio of shots that were all saved by Weidenhammer.
Gracie Johnson sent a shot wide in the 44th minute and a penalty corner for the Dutchmen went without a shot attempt to close action in the quarter.
The fourth quarter began with a shot by the Ducks hitting the post and then a pair of penalty corners. LVC held the Ducks without a shot off the corners. Weidenhammer came up with a pair of back-to-back saves in the 52nd minute. The Dutchmen battled valiantly over the final eight minutes to even the score but were unable to as Stevens came away with the 1-0 victory.
