Berkheimer Scores Two Goals in Dutchmen Women’s Soccer’s Tie with FDU-Florham

MADISON, N.J. ­­ Darrian Berkheimer scored two goals for the Lebanon Valley College Women's Soccer team, as the program tied FDU-Florham in a 2-2 battle on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Robert T. Shields Field. 

The Devils (7-8-1, 0-2-1 MAC Freedom) opened the scoring early in the first half, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Ashley Dietrich at the 3:12 mark. The Dutchmen (6-7-1, 0-2-1 MAC Freedom) also worked to generate offensive opportunities during the stanza, as Berkheimer sent a shot toward the goalkeeper that was saved 10:02 into the match. Jordan Lasky and Sophia Floyd also contributed to these efforts for LVC, taking a shot each within a period of 25 seconds in the 13th minute. 

Lebanon Valley got on the scoreboard 18:52 into the opening half, tying the contest at 1-1 with FDU-Florham. Berkheimer evened the score by sending a shot into the left corner of the net, courtesy of an assist by Abrielle Miller. The programs proceeded to go back and forth on the defensive end through the remainder of the first. The next shot on goal was a try by the Devils that goalkeeper Camryn Porter saved at the 26:18 mark. The first-year goalie also made important stops for the Flying Dutchmen 34:55 into the game and with 12 seconds left in the half. The programs ultimately entered halftime in a 1-1 tie. 

The Devils created some scoring chances early in half two, as the team registered three shots within the first 8:05. The first attempt sailed to the left of the net, the second shot was high, and the third attempt went wide right. The Dutchmen countered with a shot on goal by Sophia Floyd, which was saved at the 54:37 mark. The squads followed this by battling defensively for the next 21:33, as neither team took a shot on goal during this stretch.

Lebanon Valley then found the net 76:10 into the contest, claiming a 2-1 advantage over FDU-Florham. The team went ahead when Berkheimer kicked her second goal of the day into the right side of the net, following an assist by Alison Sepkovic. The Devils responded with a goal by Emma Letizia at the 80:56 mark, tying things up at 2-2. FDU-Florham took two more shots on goal during the remaining minutes, but Porter was there to make clutch saves 83:54 into the game and at the 84:31 mark. The programs then competed defensively during the final minutes, prompting the match to end in a 2-2 tie.

  • Berkheimer scored her team-leading eighth and ninth goals of the season. The senior also led the team with four total shots and had a game-high three attempts on goal.
  • Miller assisted LVC's first goal of the afternoon. 
  • Sepkovic dished out the assist on Berkheimer's second goal.
  • Lebanon Valley recorded 11 total shots with six attempts on goal. 
  • Lasky logged three total shots and put a try on goal.

Lebanon Valley will return to the pitch at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22, as the team will travel to take on King's College at McCarthy Stadium in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
