PURCHASE, N.Y. – Megan Ressler netted her first career goal for the Lebanon Valley College Women's Soccer team, which proved to be the game-winner in the program's 2-0 victory over Manhattanville University on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at GoValiants.com Field.
Abrielle Miller also played an integral role in the win, scoring a goal and tallying an assist.
The defenses of both the Dutchmen (6-7-0, 0-2-0 MAC Freedom) and the Valiants (4-4-4, 3-2-2 Skyline) limited each other early in the first half, as neither program recorded a shot for over 13 minutes at the start. Lebanon Valley took the first shot of the afternoon, as
Kalei Noonan sent the ball to the right of the net at the 13:45 mark. Manhattanville later took its first shot of the day 27:08 into the first, and this attempt also went wide right. The Flying Dutchmen registered the first shot on goal of the match as well, as
Jordan Lasky tallied an attempt that was saved at the 34:01 mark.
Gabby Hansson also contributed to the scoring chances for Lebanon Valley, as the first-year took a shot that was saved 37:03 into the first half before logging a try that was blocked 40:06 into the game. The Valiants countered with a shot that went wide of the net just under two minutes later. Defensively, LVC was stellar during the first 45 minutes of the contest by preventing the opposition from putting a shot on goal. The programs entered halftime in a 0-0 tie.
The Dutchmen generated an offensive opportunity near the beginning of the second half, as Ressler sent a shot to the right of the net 2:47 into the frame. Lebanon Valley then opened the scoring at the 51:50 mark, taking a 1-0 lead over Manhattanville. The program got on the board when Ressler kicked the ball into the left corner of the net for a clutch goal, courtesy of an assist by Miller. The Valiants followed this with their first shot on goal of the match at the 55:37 mark, but goalkeeper
Camryn Porter made a diving stop to register an important save for LVC.
Porter later made another key save for Lebanon Valley 58:56 into the game, maintaining the squad's one-goal advantage. The Flying Dutchmen also continued to send shots toward the net as half two progressed, as
Darrian Berkheimer put attempts on goal that were saved at the 62:57, 65:13, and 72:10 marks. On the defensive end, Porter kept her dominant day going by posting her third save 73:33 into the contest.
Berkheimer continued to create scoring chances as the stanza went on, as the senior took another shot that was saved at the 76:35 mark. Lebanon Valley then added a big insurance point 81:10 into the match, claiming a 2-0 lead. Miller put the team ahead by two by firing a shot into the left corner of the net for an unassisted goal.
