ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley College inducted its Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2024 on Friday, Oct. 11, as six new individuals and five teams were honored inside the Frederic K. Miller Chapel.
The Hall of Fame Class of 2024 includes Dr. Cynthia Adams Harnish '14, D'16 (Women's Cross Country/Track and Field), Justin Hutchinson '10 (Men's Soccer), Ryan Ogurcak '05 (Men's Golf), Dr. Erik Vargo '07 (Men's Tennis), Joe Meehan '12 (Men's Basketball) and Dr. Meghan Donoghue Schoenberger '11, D'13 (Softball). The 2008-09 Men's Tennis team, the 2008-09 Women's Tennis team, and the 2013, 2014, and 2015 Softball teams were also recognized.
Dr. Cynthia Adams Harnish '14, D'16 – Women's Cross Country/Track and Field
The first Dutchman women's runner to have her jersey retired, Harnish won the NCAA National Championship in the indoor 800 meters as a senior in 2015. She is a three-time All-American and a seven-time national qualifier in the 800 meters between the indoor and outdoor seasons.
Harnish won 17 MAC Championships and was named the MAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year in 2014 and the Outdoor Rookie of the Year in 2011. She earned Academic All-America honors three times in her career and was the only Division III qualifier for the USA Junior Nationals in 2011. In cross country, she was a two-time All-MAC finisher, placing a career-best eighth at the 2011 Championships and 14th in 2012. Harnish graduated with a bachelor's in Health Science.
After completing her undergraduate degree and Lebanon Valley Cross Country career, Harnish ran competitively for nearly two years. She was also a Student Assistant Coach for LVC Men's and Women's Cross Country teams in the 2014 campaign before serving as a Volunteer Assistant Coach for the programs from 2015-2018. Harnish was pursuing a doctorate in Physical Therapy during her first two years of coaching and earned the degree in 2016.
Harnish went on to have a career in outpatient physical therapy and has since concluded this role to start her own in-home pelvic health practice. She is married to former Lebanon Valley Men's Cross Country runner Michael Harnish '15, and they have two lovely children, ages two and six. She continues to run for fitness, and she enjoys gardening and cooking.
Justin W. Hutchinson '10 – Men's Soccer
A four-time All-Conference selection, Hutchinson began his decorated Valley career by being named the Commonwealth Conference Rookie of the Year in 2006 and earning Second Team honors as a midfielder. After missing the 2007 season due to injury, he returned strong and earned First Team honors in 2008.
In 2009, he moved to forward and earned First Team All-Conference honors once again while adding Second Team All-Region honors to his accolades. His 10 assists during the season are still second in the program record books. Hutchinson finished his career as a Second Team All-Conference defender in 2010. The three-year team captain is second in program history with 24 career assists. He graduated from Lebanon Valley with a bachelor's in Business Administration.
Hutchinson resides in Boise, Idaho, with his wife Alek, two-year-old daughter Sloane, and newborn son Case. He has worked in many roles within the consumer-packaged goods industry, including launching emerging brands. Hutchinson now works for The Hershey Company as a Costco Sales Executive. He also enjoys spending time outdoors with friends and family, cooking, and trying new cuisines in his free time.
Ryan Ogurcak '05 – Men's Golf
The second conference champion in program history, Ogurcak was named the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year after winning the first-ever Commonwealth Conference Championship on the first playoff hole after carding rounds of 77 and 80 for a score of 157 in 2005 at Hershey Country Club. The three-year team captain was a two-time First Team All-Conference honoree, having also placed 10th at the MAC Championships in 2002.
Ogurcak carded a career-low round of 69 to lead the Dutchmen to the team title at the Moravian Fall Invitational in 2004, tied for the lowest round in program history. He won over 10 tournaments during his four years and had a career scoring average under 80, including an impressive 74.6 as a senior in 2005. He graduated with a bachelor's in Business Administration.
After graduating from Lebanon Valley, Ogurcak continued his golf career and competed in numerous amateur golf tournaments. He was the 2005 Club Champion at Iron Valley Golf Club in Lebanon. Additionally, Ogurcak served as an Assistant Golf Coach at Elco High School. He is also an active volunteer for Red Lion School District athletic programs. Professionally, Ogurcak is an Account Director for Listrak, a software company in Lititz. He lives in Red Lion, with his wife, Kristina, and their sons, 13-year-old Colton and 16-year-old Isaiah.
Dr. Erik Vargo '07 – Men's Tennis
One of only two players in program history with over 100 career wins, Vargo is a four-time All-Conference honoree who was named the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year in 2006. He is third in program history with 56 singles wins and second with 51 doubles wins. Vargo had a fantastic 107-49 record during his four years at The Valley.
The three-time All-Commonwealth First Team Selection played number one singles for three years. An excellent student, Vargo was named the 2007 Honorable John A. Walter Outstanding Scholar-Athlete, the 2007 MAC Men's Tennis Senior Scholar-Athlete, a Third Team Academic All-American, and a three-time First Team Academic All-District At-Large selection. He graduated with a bachelor's in Mathematics.
After graduating from LVC, Vargo received his master's in Operations Research from The College of William & Mary in 2009. He also went on to earn his doctorate in Systems Engineering from the University of Virginia in 2012. After finishing graduate school, Vargo began work as a Computer Scientist at The MITRE Corporation in McLean, Va., where he still works. He resides in Olney, Maryland, with his lovely wife, Joyce, and daughter, Julia.
Joe Meehan '12 – Men's Basketball
A three-time All-Commonwealth First Team selection, Meehan started his career strong at The Valley with Commonwealth Rookie of the Year and Freshman All-America honors. The three-year captain earned NABC All-Region honors twice and D3hoops.com All-Region honors once in his career. Before his senior season, he was announced as a D3hoops.com and Sporting News Preseason All-American.
Meehan is 10th in program history with 1,604 career points and holds the school record for steals in a season with 64 as a junior in 2010-11. He is second in program history with 530 career assists and 203 career steals. During his junior campaign, he led the Dutchmen to the Rinso Marquette and ECAC South Tournament titles, earning MVP honors at both. He graduated from Lebanon Valley with a bachelor's in Biology.
After graduating from LVC, Meehan was accepted into the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine but deferred entrance to pursue a career in professional basketball. He signed with Basketball Club Kusnacht-Erlenbach (BCKE), a professional club in Zurich, Switzerland, in August 2012 and had a successful first season by averaging 18 points per game. The need for surgery then brought him back to the United States and spurred a career in college coaching.
Meehan put together a successful coaching career, winning a combined nine regular season and tournament championships in nine years at Randolph-Macon College and Bucknell University. He was also named a top-30 and top-40 Division I Assistant Coach in consecutive years. Additionally, Meehan was the Head Coach of a collegiate All-Star team for seven years, competing against professional clubs overseas.
He retired from coaching in 2022 to focus on his real estate business, Meehan REI, which he started in 2019 in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Meehan has since moved the business to the Lake Norman area in North Carolina. In addition to real estate, he is a recruiting specialist for Booz Allen Hamilton and a U.S. scout for an overseas agency, "Only Basket Agency." He lives in Cornelius, N.C., with his girlfriend, Riley Piechnick.
Dr. Meghan Donoghue Schoenberger '11, D'13 – Softball
The first Conference Player of the Year in program history, Schoenberger wrapped up a great career with a historic senior season in 2011. The two-time First Team All Commonwealth selection was named the Commonwealth Player of the Year, Second Team All-East Region, and First Team Academic All-District. As a junior, she earned First Team All East Region honors and was selected to the All-Regional Team at the NCAA Tournament.
Schoenberger finished her career with 130 hits and is third in program history with 12 home runs. Her 38 runs scored in 2010 is fourth in program history, while her 15 doubles and seven home runs in the same year are second. Schoenberger graduated with a bachelor's in Health Science in 2011 before earning her doctorate in Physical Therapy.
After graduating from LVC with her doctorate, Schoenberger began a career as a Physical Therapist with Kessler Rehabilitation Center. She works as a Center Manager for the organization, providing care for individuals. Schoenberger also serves as Kessler's Student Coordinator, working with colleges and universities nationwide to place Physical Therapy students in clinical affiliations. She also coordinates Kessler's new graduate education programming and is on the governing board for Select Medical's Orthopedic Residency program. She married former LVC swimmer John Schoenberger '10 in 2016, and they live together in Matawan, N.J., with their daughter, Maya, and dog, Champ. Together, they enjoy traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Teams of Honor
The 2008-09 Men's Tennis team made history by winning the program's first conference title and qualifying for the NCAA Tournament for the first time. Their journey, marked by a 3-2 record in Commonwealth Conference play, saw them avenge both conference losses with victories over Messiah (5-2) and Elizabethtown (5-4) to win the Commonwealth Championship. The team finished with a 12-8 overall record after dropping a 5-0 decision to Mount Union in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The 2008-09 Women's Tennis team also made history by winning the program's first conference title and qualifying for the NCAA Tournament for the first time. The Dutchmen had one of the best seasons in program history, with an 18-4 overall record and a 5-0 mark in conference play. They began the postseason defeating Arcadia (5-0) and Elizabethtown (5-2) to win the Commonwealth title before ending with a defeat against TCNJ in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The 2013, 2014, and 2015 Softball teams won three consecutive MAC Commonwealth titles that included two of the best seasons in program history. LVC had an impressive 88-37-1 record over the three years, including going 39-11 in Commonwealth play. 2013 was one of the best years in program history as the team went 36-7-1 and 17-1 in conference play. They had an 18-game winning streak during the year, going a whole month without a loss, and swept through the conference tournament at the Softball Park. The Dutchmen won their first two games at the NCAA Regional Tournament before falling to host Cortland. LVC won their next two games, including defeating Cortland to set up a winner-take-all Regional Championship game against the Red Dragons, in which the hosts won to end LVC's season.
In 2014, the Dutchmen had another spectacular season, going 34-6 and 14-2 in Commonwealth play. LVC won the first 18 games of the season, going the first month without a loss. The team once again swept through the conference tournament, defeating host Alvernia in the Championship to qualify for the NCAA Tournament. The Dutchmen won their first game of the Regional before falling to host Kean. They picked up a win to stay alive before Kean ended the season in the Regional Championship game. The 2015 team overcame a slow start against a difficult schedule to win the third consecutive conference title. LVC went 8-8 in conference play and entered the Commonwealth Tournament as the fourth seed. The Dutchmen won twice on day one, including handing top-seeded Messiah their first loss against a conference opponent of the year. LVC dropped a tough close game to second-seeded Widener on day two before knocking out Messiah to advance to the Championship round, where they beat the Pride twice, including an 11-3 victory in the winner-take-all game to celebrate another conference title at the Softball Park. The Dutchmen finished the year with two tough losses to nationally ranked teams sandwiched around a win over Penn State Behrend at the Regional Tournament at Alfred.
