Bohannon Rushes for Career-High 172 Yards on Homecoming

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley Football senior quarterback Braden Bohannon accounted for over 300 yards of offense on Saturday including a career-high 172 rushing yards as the Dutchmen fell just short in a 21-16 defeat to Delaware Valley University on Homecoming Saturday at Arnold Field in Annville.

The Dutchmen controlled time of possession 36:13-23:47 against the Aggies and held a 372-264 advantage in total yards of offense. LVC ran 28 more plays than DVU, but a few turnovers stopped drives that appeared headed for scores. LVC took the opening kickoff and slowly drove the ball down the field using nearly six minutes of clock to go 46 yards on nine plays. The drive came to a halt with a fumble that was recovered by the Aggie defense. Delaware Valley needed just four plays to go 59 yards in a little under two minutes to score the first touchdown of the game on five-yard run.

The offense went back to work and Bohannon engineered a nine-play 65-yard drive that ended with a two-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Bours Jr. to tie the game up. The Dutchmen recorded three first downs on the drive and the only third down play resulted in the touchdown. DVU responded by going 80 yards in eight plays to take the lead back with a one-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter. Bohannon used his arm to complete four passes on the following drive and ran five times for 31 yards to set the Dutchmen up for a field goal attempt. Tim Kissinger made the 32-yard attempt to cut the lead to 14-10 with just under seven minutes to go in the half.

The Dutchmen forced the Aggies into a three-and-out to get the ball back with a little under five minutes to go. LVC started the drive near midfield and needed just three plays to get inside the 35. The Aggies came up with a big interception at the goal line to end the drive. It looked as if the Dutchmen were going to run out the clock until halftime when Evan Kutzler came up with a big interception off a tipped pass. Bohannon had a big run for 16 yards and then a couple of big completions to Deshawn Wilson and Alex Vassallo to get the ball inside the five. He found Wilson open a couple of plays later for a two-yard touchdown pass with 10 seconds left that gave LVC a 16-14 halftime lead.

Delaware Valley started with the ball to begin the third quarter using 11 plays to drive the ball 79 yards in 6:32 that was capped with an 11-yard touchdown pass to retake the lead. The teams traded punts the rest of the quarter with neither team able to get past midfield. The Dutchmen started their first offensive drive of the fourth quarter near midfield and ran the ball eight times with one pass to get the ball down to the six. The drive was stopped near the goal line as DVU recovered a fumble. The Aggies went three-and-out and the Dutchmen got the ball back at the Del Val 37 with a little over six minutes to play. A 17-yard pass from Bohannon to Bours Jr. got the Dutchmen to the 11-yard line. Three runs moved the ball to the six before DVU forced a turnover on downs as Bohannon's pass on fourth down went out of the back of the end zone. The Dutchmen were able to get the ball back with 43 seconds left and Bohannon completed passes to Wilson and Vassallo to get the ball to the DVU 32. On the final play of the game Bohannon was flushed out of the pocket and started to run the ball before being stopped by defenders. His attempt to keep the play alive on a pitch towards a teammate was recovered by the defense to end the game.
