PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Anna Dale had two goals and two assists for the Lebanon Valley women's ice hockey team in a huge 6-5 victory at Chatham University on Friday evening to begin the weekend series at the Hunt Armory in Pittsburgh.
Dale got the Dutchmen on the board just 42 seconds into the game with her fifth goal of the year off an assist by
Alexa Spiers. LVC put a lot of pressure on the Chatham defense in the first period as they put an outstanding 20 shots on goal. The Dutchmen fired shot after shot at the net until
Katie Pounder was able to light the lamp on the power play to give LVC a 2-0 lead with 9:55 to go in the period.
Alexis Oukes had the assist on the goal. Not even 30 seconds later,
Ava Waugaman scored her first career goal to give the Dutchmen a three-goal lead. Dale picked up her first assist of the night on the goal.
Chatham called timeout after the goal and changed their goaltenders as they tried to not let the game get out of hand early. The Cougars were able to get on the board with just under three minutes to go in the period as
Mia Frisoni made a pair of saves before a Cougar was able to knock the puck into the back of the net. Chatham cut the lead to one-goal at the first intermission, scoring with 25 seconds left.
LVC came out of the tents at Hunt Armory as the aggressors to start the second period. The Cougars withstood an early onslaught of shots during a power play opportunity without letting up a goal. LVC was called for a pair of penalties within 35 seconds of each other and was able to successfully kill the opportunity without a goal. Chatham was able to tie things up at 12:15 as they scored 10 seconds after LVC had another successful penalty kill.
Maeghan Howson gave the Dutchmen back the lead with her third goal of the year three seconds before the period ended. Dale assisted on the goal for her third point of the night.
Chatham started the third period strong with nine shots in the first two minutes. Frisoni made six saves while the other three were blocked. The Cougars kept up the pressure over the first 10 minutes of the period as they looked for the tying goal. LVC kept the Cougars off the board and took a two-goal lead at 11:35 as Oukes lit the lamp for the first time this season off an assist by Howson. Chatham answered right back 23 seconds later to bring the score to 5-4 with just over eight minutes to go.
Dale gave the Dutchmen a two-goal advantage at 14:29 with her second goal of the game off an assist by Waugaman. The Cougars were able to cut it back to one with a power play goal where they pulled their goalie for an extra attacker with 4:17 left. Chatham continued to press following the goal as they put seven shots on goal in a minute span, but Frisoni denied each attempt. Chatham pulled their goalie for the final two minutes, but the Dutchmen defense was able to limit the Cougars to just one shot at the buzzer to hold on for the big win.
Inside the Box
- Dale was a +5 on the ice with two goals and two assists while taking five shots. She was one assist and one point shy of the program records in each category.
- Waugaman and Howson recorded multi-point games with a goal and assist each. It was the first career multi-point game for Waugaman while Howson also had a goal and an assist in the win over Neumann a couple weekends ago.
- Oukes was the third Dutchman with a goal and an assist for the first multi-point game of her career.
- Tiffany Anderson won a game-high 12 faceoffs while Pounder won eight.
- The Dutchmen scored a season-high six goals on 41 shots. The six goals is one shy of the program record.
- Frisoni made 44 saves in goal with an outstanding 22 saves coming in the third period.

LVC will look to sweep the season series over the Cougars tomorrow afternoon as the teams will have a 3 p.m. puck drop back at the Hunt Armory.
