Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Howson Scores Late Goal as Women’s Ice Hockey Takes Chatham to Overtime

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Maeghan Howson was the hero in regulation for the Lebanon Valley women's ice hockey team with a game-tying power play goal with just over a minute to play but it was Chatham University that was able to score in overtime to salvage a weekend split with the Dutchmen by a 2-1 overtime score.

Anna Dale took the first shot of the game for the Dutchmen just 26 seconds in, but Chatham responded with a trio of shots towards Lacy Bigelow in goal that the first-year kept out of the net. LVC had the first power play opportunity of the game at 6:08 and the Dutchmen got shots from Tiffany Anderson and Alexis Oukes during the woman advantage but were unable to find the back of the net. The Cougars got on the board with a goal by Cameron Carmody at 12:04 to take their first lead of the weekend. The Cougars outshot the Dutchmen 19-10 in the first period. Eight different skaters took a shot for LVC in the first 20 minutes of action while the Dutchmen also had seven shots blocked.

The teams traded blows back and forth in the second period but neither team was able to score. The Cougars had the shot advantage in the period 18-12. The Dutchmen had two power play opportunities during the period for a total time of 2:32 and put two shots on goal. Chatham had a power play opportunity that lasted just 32 seconds and took one shot. Brenna Mulcahy led the Dutchmen offense during the period with two shots while 10 different skaters had a shot on goal each.

The beginning of the third period began just like the second with the teams trading looks at goal as neither team was able to score. The Dutchmen had two penalties in the period giving the Cougars a couple of short power play opportunities, but LVC was able to have a successful kill each time to keep it a one-goal game. The Dutchmen were the benefactors of a Chatham penalty with just over two minutes remaining. The Cougars blocked LVC's first two shots at goal but then Howson was able to light the lamp with her fourth goal of the season with 1:01 on the clock. Dale and Erin Yorke earned assists on the goal.

Lebanon Valley won the opening faceoff of the opening period before Chatham was able to score the game-winner 22 seconds into the extra session.
