Women’s Ice Hockey Blocks Season-High 23 Shots Against Manhattanville

RYE, N.Y. ­­ The Lebanon Valley College women's ice hockey team blocked a season-high 23 shots on Saturday, Jan. 20, as the program dropped a 6-0 decision to Manhattanville College at Playland Ice Casino.

The Dutchmen created an offensive opportunity early in the contest, as Grace Mayer took the game's first shot on goal just 10 seconds into the first period. The Valiants then opened the scoring 3:57 into the frame, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Taylor Willoughby. Lebanon Valley was productive on the defensive end over the next 7:22, as goaltender Jorja Fisher saved each of the four shots on goal she faced. Alexis Oukes and Chelly Wolff also blocked a shot each during this stretch.

Manhattanville resumed the scoring 12:39 into the period, taking a 2-0 advantage on a goal by Catrina Chinetti. LVC continued to battle as the frame progressed, registering seven more blocks over the next 7:05. Anna Dale made two blocks within four seconds during the 16th minute. The Valiants added another point 16 seconds before the first intermission, making it a 3-0 game on a goal by Gabrielle Cox. 

Manhattanville put a tally on the board 4:25 into the second period, extending its lead to 4-0 on another goal by Cox. The Flying Dutchmen then worked to generate scoring chances throughout the second frame, sending the puck toward the net 14 times with shots by 10 players. Kia Carlson, Madelynn Debelis, Ava Waugaman, and Oukes each attempted shots on goal for Lebanon Valley within 38 seconds, during a stretch that began in the 14th minute. Fisher also made six more saves for the squad during the remainder of the second. 

The programs went back and forth defensively for much of the third period, maintaining the score for nearly 13 minutes at the start. The Dutchmen continued to send shots toward the goaltender, registering six attempts during the first 10:48 of the frame. Katie Pounder and Dale each took shots on goal within 45 seconds during a stretch that began in the ninth minute. 

Defensively, Lebanon Valley blocked five more shots and Fisher saved all four shots she faced during the opening 12:28 of the third. The Valiants then added two more points in the remaining minutes of the contest, as Catrina Chinetti scored a goal 12:59 into the frame and Harper Weisbeck tallied a goal with 3:31 to go. This advanced Manhattanville's lead to 6-0, which would stand as the final score.
