DALLAS, Pa. – Sophomore forward
Nathan Prex tied the program record for the most goals in a game on Saturday, netting four shots during the No. 13 Lebanon Valley College men's soccer team's 5-2 victory over Misericordia University at Mangelsdorf Field. The commanding win came in the Dutchmen's Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom opener, as the team made a statement to begin the new era.
Lebanon Valley (8-1-0, 1-0-0 MAC Freedom) defeated Misericordia (2-5-1, 0-1-0 MAC Freedom) behind a historic day for Prex. The teams traded goals during the first half, as they were tied entering halftime. The Cougars went up by in the second half, but the Flying Dutchmen then came alive offensively with four unanswered goals. LVC's big second half helped the program secure its sixth consecutive victory.
This game was a defensive battle throughout the majority of the first half, as the contest was scoreless for over 30 minutes. Both teams tried to generate offensive opportunities, as Lebanon Valley took 10 shots during the opening stanza while Misericordia made five attempts.
The Dutchmen opened the scoring 34:17 into the first half, taking a 1-0 lead over the Cougars. Prex got the team on the board by sending a shot past the goalkeeper and into the right corner of the net. The forward's first goal of the day was assisted by sophomore
Aidan Smith. Misericordia responded just 3:39 later, tying Lebanon Valley at 1-1 on a goal by Alfred Romano. The score remained even as the game went into halftime.
The defenses of both programs dominated early in the second half, maintaining the 1-1 score for over 24 minutes into the stanza. The Cougars got back on the board 69:33 into the game, taking a 2-1 advantage on Romano's second goal of the day. The Dutchmen answered right back just 1:55 later, evening the score at 2-2. Prex snuck his second goal of the afternoon past the diving attempt of the goalkeeper and into the lower-right corner of the net. The game-tying goal was assisted by first-year
Darryl Greenwood.
Lebanon Valley found the net less than two minutes after knotting up the game, taking a 3-2 lead. Junior Tyler Snavley took a shot from the right side of the field and powered a shot into the upper portion of the net, putting the program ahead with a clutch goal from a difficult angle.
The Dutchmen then padded their advantage 82:17 into the contest, making it a 4-2 ballgame. Prex kicked a shot into the lower-right corner of the net for his third goal of the afternoon. The sophomore forward wasn't done there, sending a shot into the upper-right corner of the net to extend LVC's lead to 5-2 with 2:11 left. Prex's fourth goal of the game was assisted by first-year
