LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's cross country team had a strong day racing against great competition on Saturday at the Lock Haven Invitational. The meet was run on the same course that will host the NCAA Regionals in November.
"This was a pretty special day for our women's team," head coach James O'Brien stated about the race. "Though it was a little cold and rainy, the course still ran relatively fast. It was a really strong day on the whole for us to hold our own against many of the top teams in the region." The Dutchmen finished 16th out of 37 scoring teams with 437 points and beat Messiah University, Susquehanna University, and Saint Vincent College who are all regionally ranked. There were six total regionally ranked team at the meet. LVC finished sixth in the field among Division III teams.
"Our women's five-runner average of 23:09 is, to the best of my knowledge, the second fastest in program history. Bunke tied the LVC #2 all-time performance while Coyla notched the LVC #6 mark. I was also tremendously impressed with our grouping of Autumn, Abby, Izzy, Charlee and Aleah. They kept a tight grouping and honestly ran faster than I expected them to!"
Lauren Bunke finished 14th overall out of 286 runners with a career best 6,000-meter time of 21:34.3.
Coyla Bartholomew finished 46th with a career best time of 22:24.9. The Dutchmen had a spread of 2:40 from Bunke to
Izzy Zwally, their fifth finisher, and a 2:48 spread for their top seven.
Autumn Garges had a time of 23:25.5,
Abigail Hunt crossed the line in 24:06.0 and Zwally rounded out the top five with a time of 24:14.4. Multiple runners ran their career best 6,000-meter times between the Crimson and White races.
