Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Six Dutchmen Tally Points in Win Over Cairn

LANGHORNE, Pa. – Six different players recorded points during the Lebanon Valley College men's soccer team's 6-1 victory over Cairn University on Saturday night at the G. Patrick Stillman Athletic Complex.

While the Dutchmen (5-1-0) received contributions from several players against the Highlanders (2-2-1), sophomores Nathan Prex and Aidan Smith led the way by netting two goals each. LVC took control of the game early on, scoring three goals in the first half to take a commanding lead into halftime. The squad put up three more points in the second stanza while playing solid defense, cruising to a five-goal win.

Lebanon Valley didn't waste any time opening the scoring, taking a 1-0 lead over Cairn just 23 seconds into the game. Smith got things started by sending a shot to the back of the net, courtesy of an assist by graduate student Lucas Strange. Strange then added a goal of his own 3:50 into the contest, providing the Dutchmen with an early 2-0 advantage. Strange's third goal of the season was assisted by senior Charlie McCormick

The defenses of both programs then settled into a rhythm, as neither team put a tally on the board for almost 25 minutes. Prex resumed the scoring with a goal 28:42 into the ballgame, thanks to another assist by McCormick. This goal gave the Flying Dutchmen a 3-0 lead, which would be the score as the contest went into halftime.

Lebanon Valley picked up right where it left off when the second half began, extending its advantage to 4-0 4:29 after the break. Prex delivered his second goal of the game by sending a penalty kick shot to the back of the net. Smith followed this with his second goal of the night 56:17 into the contest, advancing the score to 5-0 in favor of LVC. This goal was courtesy of McCormick's third assist of the game.

The Dutchmen tacked on an insurance point 72:00 into the game, extending their lead to 6-0 against the Highlanders. Sophomore Ethan Groff capped off the team's scoring by recording his first goal of the campaign, after an assist by graduate student Matthew Weinstock-Collins. Cairn got on the scoreboard 78:53 into the contest, making it a 6-1 contest on a goal by Jack Fiacco. Ultimately, Lebanon Valley preserved this five-goal advantage over the remaining minutes to secure the win.
