Griffin Named Track Athlete of the Year as Men Finish Second at MAC Championships

YORK, Pa. – Noah Griffin finished second in the 5,000 meters to finish his trifecta of distance events at the Middle Atlantic Conference Outdoor Track and Field and was named the Track Athlete of the Year after his performance this weekend. Elijah McKell, Zach Reed, and Michael De  Falcis won their events to power the Dutchmen to a second place team finish.
 
The day on the track started off with the 4x100 meter relay where the team of Daniel Sheffield, Kadan Smith, Owen Linder, and Alex Sabo finished second to score eight points and earn All-MAC Second Team honors with a time of 42.96 seconds. Vinny Ferrizzi ran a time of 4:09.47 in the 1500 meters while Andy Loy crossed the line in 4:1.71. The Dutchmen scored 12 points in the 110 hurdles as Reed finished second to earn Second Team honors with a career best time of 14.95 seconds and Smith finished fifth in 15.54 seconds. Reed moved up from sixth to fifth in the program record book with his time.
 
After he edged out a win in the 4x800 meters on Thursday night, McKell edged out another win in the 800 meters on Saturday with a time of 1:53.765 to score 10 points and earn First Team honors. He finished just ahead of Hood's Chris Sappe who ran 1:53.767. McKell's career best time is fourth in program history. The Dutchmen earned another big 14 points in the 400 hurdles as Reed won and Smith finished fifth. Reed earned First Team All-MAC honors with a time of 54.97 seconds which equals his career best time that he ran in 2021. He is currently seventh on the program top 10 list. Smith ran an AARTFC qualifying 56.75 seconds to earn another four points for LVC.
 
Linder scored three points in the 200 meters with a time of 22.45 seconds to finish sixth. Griffin ran 15:05.64 in his third distance event of the meet to finish second, score eight points, and earn Second Team honors. The graduate student finished the meet with 28 individual points scored after he won the 10K and 3K steeplechase. Jordan Berger had a time of 15:33.95, Joe Chukoskie ran 15:38.48, Sam Rothstein finished in 15:58.53, and Eric Shelton crossed the line in 16:31.11. The 4x400 relay team of Linder, Reed, Matt Bruchak, and McKell closed out the track events with an AARTFC qualifying time of 3:21.27 to finish fourth and score five points. Their time is seventh in program history.
 
De Falcis highlighted the field events by winning the javelin with a throw of 59.28 meters (194'6") on his last attempt of the day. His previous best throw was 55.70 meters. De Falcis scored 10 points for the Dutchmen and earned First Team honors with the fourth best mark in program history. Ian Paul finished fourth to score five points with a toss of 55.78 meters (183'0") on his sixth attempt. In the shot put, Will Fisher had a mark of 13.39 meters (43'11.25") on his second throw, Trey Reynolds finished at 13.19 meters (43'3.25") on his second attempt, Cody Shay threw 12.39 meters (40'7.75") on his second toss, and Wyatt Hetrick had a mark of 12.23 meters (40'1.5") on his first attempt.
 
Ayden Stankus finished fourth in the pole vault with a height of 4.05 meters (13'3.5") to score five points. Darren Rodoff also finished at 4.05 meters (13'3.5") to finish fifth and score four points. Josh Otto was ninth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.96 meters (42'6.25") on his third jump. Stankus had a jump of 12.22 meters (40'1.25") on his first attempt.
 
Messiah University won the team title with 132 points. LVC was second with 125 points. Widener University finished third with 109 points, York College of Pennsylvania was fourth at 78 points, and Stevenson University rounded out the top five with 72 points.

Assistant Coach of the Year: Alex Palescandolo, Widener
Coach of the Year: Dale Fogelsanger, Messiah
