Dutchmen Women’s Tennis Earns First NCAA Win in Program History

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Lebanon Valley women's tennis team defeated Hartwick College 5-2 on Friday morning in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to make school history with the first-ever win in the national tournament.
 
LVC (17-3) got off to a great start with two wins at number three and two doubles. Madison Poladian and Eliana Shenk cruised to an 8-0 victory in 25 minutes at number three doubles to give LVC 1-0 lead. Eight minutes later Nicole Honrade and Jenna Miner finished off an 8-1 victory at number two doubles to make it 2-0. The Hawks (16-3) earned a point at number one doubles as Meredith Haas and Livia Jackson dropped a hard-fought 8-3 decision.
 
The match then shifted to singles play where Haas finished off a 6-1, 6-2 victory at number three singles in 51 minutes to put the Dutchmen up 3-0. Nicole Honrade made it 4-0 with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at number one in 1:14.
 
Hartwick cut the lead to 4-2 with a 6-3, 7-5 victory at number two singles before Eliana Shenk earned the match-clinching win for the Dutchmen at number four. Shenk won a three-setter 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 in 1:32. The two remaining singles matches at number five and six went unfinished with the Dutchmen clinched to move to the second round. Both matches were in the third set as Poladian won her second set 7-5 at number five while Abbie Hoffer also won her second set 6-2 at number six.
 
Inside the Box
  • Poladian and Shenk improved to 7-2 in doubles this year during duals.
  • Honrade and Miner won their first double match playing with each other.
  • Haas earned her 14th dual win of the year and improved to 7-3 at number three singles.  She has won her last 11 matches.
  • Honrade improved to 16-3 in duals at number one singles while winning her seventh consecutive match.
  • Shenk improved to 13-4 including a 6-3 record in duals at number four singles.
 
Up Next
The Dutchmen will take on host Middlebury College tomorrow in the second round at 10 a.m.
