TOWSON, Md. – The Lebanon Valley men's tennis team fought valiantly but came up short in a 5-0 defeat to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) on Friday afternoon in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at the Schroedl Tennis Center on the campus of Goucher College.
RPI (14-6) won all three doubles matches and then clinched the match victory with wins at number six and number three singles. LVC (17-4) battled tough throughout the match but were unable to take any sets off the 33rd-ranked Engineers.
Jesse Beck and
Brendan Byler dropped an 8-0 decision at number two doubles.
Justin Schuetz and
Adam Warren at number one doubles and
Brady McLucas and
Jeffrey Bauer at number three doubles both dropped 8-2 decision. In singles, Byler and Bauer were dealt tough 6-0, 6-0 defeats to end the match. The other four singles matches went unfinished.
The Dutchmen concluded an amazing season with a 17-4 record after winning their second consecutive conference championship. LVC finished a perfect 9-0 at the Shankroff Tennis Center and were 6-1 in true road matches. The team had a .717 winning percentage in singles play and .710 percentage in doubles play during duals.
