ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Lebanon Valley sophomore
Michael De Falcis finished an outstanding season with a 20th-place finish in the javelin at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday afternoon at the Polisseni Track and Field Complex on the campus of St. John Fisher University.
De Falcis finished with a mark of 54.87 meters (180'00") on his second of three attempts. The sophomore fouled on his first throw before hitting his best mark. He finished with a toss of 49.97 meters (163'11") on his third attempt. His mark is the third-best of his career behind his MAC and AARTFC-winning throws.
He began the first Dutchman to compete at the NCAA Championships in the javelin since 1999 when Patrick Loughney had a toss of 55.42 meters (181'10") to finish 10th. De Falcis becomes the first male field event student-athlete to qualify for the National Championships under head coach
Melissa Byler in 15 seasons.
Will Lawrence from Wisconsin Platteville won the national title in the event with a throw of 72.14 meters (236'8") on his fourth attempt. Rowan's Greg Poloso was second with a mark of 69.43 meters (227'9") on his second toss. Dominic Funk of Pacific was third with a throw of 65.26 meters (214'01") on his sixth toss.
