ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley softball team will head south this weekend to take on top-ranked Salisbury University in the NCAA Super Regionals. Game one of the best-of-three series will be on Friday at Margie Knight Sea Gull Stadium in Salisbury.
Friday's game will begin at 2 p.m. and will be a single game. Game two will be played on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Dutchmen batting second as the "home team". An if-necessary game three will also be played on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. with a coin flip to decide who will be the "home team". The winner of the series will advance to the NCAA Championship to be played June 1-7 at Taylor Field in Marshall, Texas.
LVC won their regional this past weekend by winning four consecutive eliminations after a tough 4-1 defeat to 24th-ranked Eastern Connecticut State. The Dutchmen rebounded with a 6-2 victory over Eastern Nazarene College and then avenged their loss to the Warriors with a 3-2 victory in game five of the regional. On Saturday, the Dutchmen shut out 15th-ranked University of Rochester 2-0 to force a winner-take-all Championship game and then became just the second team all season to sweep the Yellowjackets with a 5-3 victory. The Dutchmen enter the weekend with a 36-10 record and are 4-2 against nationally ranked teams this year including a 1-1 record in Florida to begin the season.
Salisbury is 42-3 this year including a 29-2 mark at home. The Sea Gulls and Dutchmen have three common opponents this season. Salisbury began the year with an 11-1 five-inning victory and a 2-1 victory over Rochester. The Sea Gulls swept Stevenson University 3-1 and 13-2 on April 12 and then swept York College of Pennsylvania 4-2 and 8-0 four days later. The Sea Gulls have won six straight games after falling to 10th-ranked Christopher Newport University in the first game of the Coast-to-Coast Conference Tournament. Last weekend, Salisbury began the regionals with a 10-2 five-inning victory over Framingham State College. They then defeated Williams College 7-2 and 6-1 to advance to the Super Regionals.
Ticket prices are set at $10 for adults and $7 for students, senior citizens, and children over five. Tickets are good for all three games in the series. Gate opening and ticket sales will begin an hour before each of the scheduled game times. There will be no advance ticket sales.
