ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley men's tennis team rallied back from an early 2-1 deficit after double to defeat second-seeded Stevenson University 5-2 in the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Championship on Thursday afternoon at the Shankroff Tennis Center.
LVC (17-3) won the program's second consecutive conference title and third overall with a dominating display in singles. Stevenson (11-7) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in doubles with victories at number one and number two. The Mustangs were leading at number three before LVC rallied to win in a tiebreaker. The Dutchmen responded to win the first set in all six singles matches.
Inside the Box Score
- Jeffrey Bauer and Brady McLucas improved to 9-0 this year at number three doubles with an 8-7 (10-8) victory for the lone point in doubles.
- Justin Schuetz was the first singles match to finish at the top flight with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
- Brendan Byler cruised through his number six singles match once again with a 6-3, 6-0 victory to give LVC the lead in the match. He is now 13-0 in duals when playing in the sixth flight.
- McLucas put the Dutchmen in championship-clinching mode with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at number four.
- Jesse Beck clinched the win for the second straight match with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at number five for his sixth consecutive win.
- Bauer was leading 6-1, 4-4 at number three while Adam Warren won the first set 6-4 and was down 5-3 in set two.
- LVC won their 11th match in a row and their 17th consecutive match at the Shankroff Tennis Center.
- The Dutchmen defeated Stevenson for the second time in a span of a week and earned their fourth consecutive win over the Mustangs.
Up Next
The Dutchmen have earned the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Championships and will now wait until Monday when they will find out where and when they will play their first NCAA Tournament game.
