ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley men's tennis team won their second consecutive regular season championship and clinched home court advantage in next week's conference tournament with a thrilling 6-3 Senior Day victory over Stevenson University on Friday afternoon at the Shankroff Tennis Center.
The Dutchmen (15-3, 7-0 MAC Commonwealth) took a 2-1 lead after doubles as Stevenson (10-5, 6-1 MAC Commonwealth) won the first doubles match. The teams battled through singles play with the Mustangs earning a point at number three singles on an injury retirement After LVC took home a victory at number one, Stevenson won a close three-setter at number two to tie the match up. The Dutchmen took home victories on the final three courts to finish the regular season with a perfect conference record for the second consecutive year.
Inside the Box Score
- Jesse Beck and Brendan Byler won their seventh consecutive match at number two doubles and finished conference play at 5-0 with an 8-4 victory.
- Jeffrey Bauer and Brady McLucas gave the Dutchmen the lead after doubles with a big 8-2 victory at number three to improve to 7-0 in duals this year.
- Justin Schuetz wrapped up a perfect conference slate in singles with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at number one. The defending Player of the Year went a perfect 7-0 in singles play without dropping a set. He is on a nine-match winning streak.
- Beck gave the Dutchmen a 4-3 lead in the match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at number four. It was fourth straight win and he improved to 5-1 in conference play.
- Byler clinched the victory for the Dutchmen and stayed unbeaten at number six singles this year with a 6-4, 6-3 victory. The senior won his team-best 15th dual match and is 11-0 at number six.
- McLucas closed out the match with a thrilling 3-6, 7-5, 12-10 victory at number four singles. He improved to 4-1 in conference play with his third consecutive win.
- The Dutchmen improved their winning streak at Shankroff Tennis Center to 15 matches dating back to last spring.
- LVC has now won their last three matches against Stevenson including last year's MAC Commonwealth Championship. The Dutchmen also beat the Mustangs 6-3 in last year's regular season battle in Maryland.
